Four periods of interest:
1 - I'm assuming the flatlines, for both countries, over 1950 or so is the result of WWII;
2 - Curious about the flatline blip for Canada, while the US skyrocketed, just after 1970; what happened then?
3 - Easy to see the COVID hit at 2020 for both countries, and the recoveries of both; guess which country poo-poo'd masks?  And which country re-elected their president from that Failure period (as Bird Flu raises its ugly head)?  And which country just voted in that failed president's nominee for HHS, rfkJR, whose brain is half eaten-away by a worm and is a vax denier?  
4 - Finally, I despise these stupid graphs that have intentionally-misleading markings along their x- and y- coordinates.  Here, the X-axis is marked four times, with periods of 20, 20, and 31 years.  Those markings appear to be properly-spaced, but there are no vertical lines showing exactly what's happening in the data at that particular year.  Hard for someone with an education/career in Statistics to follow, impossible for the average layman/voter.  Stock Market reports love to do this too, where the Y-axis is labelled only between, say, 40K and 42K, so a drop over the last week looks huge, but overall (a Y-axis labelled from 0 to 42K) it's just a blip.  Gah!

I struggle to see who this really benefits. They don't seem to be evaluating cost-benefit or even rooting out fraud, it just looks like cutting things that remove protections and benefit big business and Trump cronies.
