I will say, it's no surprise that we're getting misinformation and at best a biased look at what musk is doing with those teenagers. Tearing things down in the name of "rooting out waste" to the point that essential parts of our government can't function, that's not a win. Don't be surprised when musk ends up with the contract to keep the lights on with no other way to do it.

I expect Trump, Musk, et al to hold the country, government, businesses hostage to get what they want.

but doesn't that hurt Canadian stores ?

If taxpayers can float the IRS and their monthly $30,000 K cup sales, I believe we (USA) will be good

Don't forget the Department of Defenses 2MM annual spend on bubble wrap stress relief
If $1B in Kentucky bourbon isn't being purchased by Canadians, who do you think that hurts the most?

As for the K-Cup thing, do you have a source for that?  Or are you just making stuff up again?
I, as a drinker, ain’t upset the allocations going N won’t be headed there. Maybe the prices here will finally align with where the market should be
As someone who hits up multiple LCBO stores at least once a month, I can tell you they never seem to have anything good. Typically I see Makers, JD, and a couple other lower end offerings.

I have better luck hitting up the duty free store on the way back south.
1/3 of allocation goes out of the US. I’m sure some of it ends up in Canada

What is the closest we’ve seen to what’s going on right now, in your opinion?

I wasn't suggesting simple arm twisting, holding up the budget or a bill or what has become normal partisan politics. I literally meant locking down computer systems, taking things out of the hands of the civil servants that keep the country running.

I'm not debating the value in cutting waste, but the court of public opinion is not the place to do that, especially when it's built on misinformation and bias. It's easy to single something out, like the cost of toilet paper for USPS and suddenly everyone loses their minds "that's my tax dollars!!"

It's so disingenuous, it's so torches and pitchforks and middle school mob mentality.

So, yeah, holding up the budget every few years is nothing compared to what we're seeing. Count the days until Musk is the sole contractor for running half the government.  I hope I'm wrong, but this isn't about me not liking Trump, it's about what they are doing and what they are going to do.

I was referring to the mask and vaccine mandates. Biden, Fauci et al to hold the country, government, businesses hostage to get what they want.

before you fall out of your rocking chair, agree, or disagree, I am just giving an example.

Yeah, we disagree. No surprise there.

I'm not an ends justifies the means guy, but intent and purpose matters, to me. I don't expect anything I say to sway anyone. It's unfortunate, but we will have to wait and see, and even then, we can count on a good proportion of Americans to not get it, make excuses, think this about party.

I remember when Reagan forced states to raise the minimum drinking age to 21 by threatening to withhold 10% of federal highway funds if they didn't comply.

I have to 100% agree with this.
Combine this with the stomping of news outlets (bullying CBS for $25M, investigating PBS and NPR "outside" supporters, suing the rest of them, taking control of the FCC, and then implementing "rotating" news reporting in places like the Pentagon), well, this is textbook authoritarianism/oligarchy takeover.

I can't remember a time when this did happen as you claim. There have most certainly been times when rules have changed, mostly temporarily, to address a threat of some kind. Didn't Trump invoke the wartime production act to force companies to make masks, respirators, etc?

A very long list of contractors stiffed with bills will surely be part of Trump’s legacy.   I don’t care where you stand politically, I’d hope you’d agree that the US should pay its bills.

  • to tie this into the thread topic.  it’s a lot like having an alcoholic in the house— the people around them have to acknowledge the problem and be committed to a resolution. right now we have supporters that love him like the “stuff my grandpa says” guy and career politicians that love the job security of his agenda and its loyalists. so to the guy who has four lifetimes of bourbon in his basement— he forgot the rule about “know your exit strategy before you invest”. he ain’t drinking his way out of that stockpile.

maybe he can sell 20% of the total bottles that are really rare. hopefully he paid msrp for everything on hand. reminds me of baseball cards and comic books.

I pop em, don’t shop em. I’ve got duplicates of bottles that I’d part with no problem. It would more than pay for what I paid for both bottles on the secondary market as of today. Who knows what that market will look like in 6-12 months. Either way, I’ll sit back and enjoy the bourbon.

No, we have lots of alcohol options ... we'll go to Scotch for a start.
Don't get me wrong ... I like a good Eagle Rare (and have 4 bottles of it in stock) ... but, we adjust pretty fast. COVID taught us to do that. LOL.

I'd like to see something done about the Canadian Geese immigrating to the US.  It'd be ok if they went back home in the spring, but once here they stay year around.  It's time to start revoking their visas.
Don't give Trump any ideas ... he'll sign an executive order to call them American Geese ...

Turned on cspan at lunch.  Good lord, when did they start doing call-ins?

Heard from a well informed boomer that praised Musk and judged his intentions as pure because he's not taking a salary (that's the test).

When asked about Musk's contracts with the government, the caller responded that those are fine, they're legitimate contracts and he's just there to look at waste. I'm glad we do have citizen oversight on this.

Another caller expressed disappointment that Musk is the only smart businessman involved, "it would be nice to have Bill Gates involved as well, but he probably didn't give money to Trump like Musk did."

And they're regular callers! One guy just asked why he can't get through and was told only once per 30 days!

This is gold, I need to schedule this.

To go back on-topic for a moment . . . Blanton's is the high end for my bourbon purchases and that is a infrequent buy.  Today, at Sam's Club of all places, I saw a bottle of Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition, $1,600.  And it was only a fifth, it did have a cool looking bottle though.

Did you read about the guy calling CSPAN during the inauguration to complain about Bama not being in the playoffs?
