    And the latest from Judge Cannon who has serviced CHEETO more and better than anyone else out there: Another F' me.
    CANNON FODDER — Judge AILEEN CANNON today temporarily blocked the Justice Department from releasing special counsel JACK SMITH’s final report from the two federal criminal cases against President-elect DONALD TRUMP. “The extraordinary move … scrambles the final stage of the special counsel’s work,” Josh Gerstein and Kyle Cheney write.

  • calling him a DEI hire since he is a veteran and unqualified is kind of a stretch. nepotism, blind loyalist, yes man, stuff like that applies to this honeymoon get the job phase.  not sure how long he lasts taking orders without mouthing off to the boss.

    The "DEI" part is something of clickbait, but the essence of it is that Republicans are always saying they're opposed to any kind of DEI initiatives because it leads to hiring people who aren't qualified.  The gist is that they're not hired because they're good, but rather because they check some box based on their identity.

    If they were arguing in good faith (obviously they're not), then they ought to be opposed to someone who is clearly unqualified and just happens to look a lot like Hegseth.

  • to me DEI is about being better than a primal reaction or bias. so unfortunately drawing any similarities to anything wrong almost creates a “two wrongs don’t make a right” conversation. DEI is easier to scapegoat when that happens.

    my personal experience with DEI has been positive and beneficial to my happiness and career. to go back to a time, personal age, financial position, etc where i would be jealous and critical of it would be a few decades in reverse and in a different geography with a different demographic profile.

    so yeah, bastardizing dei is probably similar to misappropriating anything to help push a limited view.

    yeah your thing was just one little example link. there has been an onslaught of anti-DEI talk that misrepresents DEI as quotas and reparation (which it is not).

    so its been on my mind to say something in some way somewhere at some point and maybe this one opened the door.

    Man I eat, drink, and breathe DEI at the university.  I think I understand exactly what it is and what it isn’t.

    That piece uses the acronym simply as a means to focus on GOP hypocrisy.  It’s not an anti-DEI piece.

  • right, my posts are an observation of the authors text and not about you.

    i said “calling him a dei hire”, which the author did in the title. the article also says “As such a manifestly unqualified candidate, his increasingly certain confirmation to be Defense Secretary is the quintessential DEI hire, someone hired for his culture and identity rather than his qualifications.”

    so those two added up to me feeling the need to respond. seemed like the author was accepting of calling anyone a dei hire — which is a misrepresentation of dei in my opinion.

    i then tried to further my point with some personal observations, none of which were about you.

    the author made a lot of great points in the article, none of which required mentioning dei.

    @Buckwoody Egger - I think the author was simply regurgitating GOP talking points on what DEI hires are, not expressing her own views.  It’s Marcy Wheeler.

    And we're off-

    President Trump issued a flurry of executive orders yesterday, reversing many of former President Biden’s policies on immigration, the environment, and diversity. For a full list, see the Washington Post. The orders issued by Trump include:

    • Withdrawing the United States from the Paris Agreement and the World Health Organization (Sheryl Gay Stolberg reports for the New York Times);
    • Suspending all U.S. foreign aid assistance for 90 days, pending review of whether the programs align with Trump’s foreign policy goals (Matthew Lee reports for AP News);
    • Declaring a “national emergency” on the U.S.-Mexico border, ordering a suspension of refugee admissions, and directing the U.S. military to “seal the borders” (Zolan Kanno-Youngs reports for the New York Times);
    • Moving to end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to parents who are not lawfully present or are in the country on a temporary visa. The American Civil Liberties Union immediately brought a lawsuit challenging the order as unconstitutional (Rebecca Beitsch reports for the Hill);
    • Rescinding Biden’s executive order sanctioning Israeli settlers and entities accused of violence in the occupied West Bank (Kelly Kasulis Cho reports for the Washington Post);
    • Rescinding a Biden-era census order affirming the practice of including residents Truwith no legal migration status in state census counts (Hansi Lo Wang reports for NPR);
    • Creating a category of federal workers known as “Schedule F,” which would lack the job protections enjoyed by career civil servants. The order is subject to a legal challenge brought by the National Treasury Employees Union (Courtney Rozen reports for Bloomberg Law);
    • Instructing the Attorney General to “review the activities of all departments and agencies exercising civil or criminal enforcement authority” as well as intelligence agencies for indications of political bias in work conducted under the Biden administration (Devlin Barrett reports for the New York Times);
    • Revoking the security clearance of 51 former intelligence officials who signed a 2020 letter calling the Hunter Biden laptop story Russian disinformation, as well as granting security clearances to certain personnel outside the usual process (Katie Bo Lillis reports for CNN).

    Trump yesterday issued a full pardon to the nearly 1,600 people charged in relation to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack and only commutations of sentences for a small group. Enrique Tarrio, the former Proud Boys leader convicted of seditious conspiracy, received a full pardon, while Stewart Rhodes, the Oath Keepers’ founder, received a commutation of his sentence. Alan Feuer reports for the New York Times.
