Good call on the wood holder, SWMBO ruined a few blades on a metal strip holder before I switched to a dedicated wooden knife drawer a couple of years ago.

I ordered Gestura spoons from KnifeWear; they were sold out 5 minutes after I received the re-stock notification.

I used the Chinese cleaver Kenji Lopez recommends to try and cleave a pork shoulder. Left a big chunk of blade in the ham. Threw both ham and knife in trash.

Moral of the story, careful what/how you cleave.

What a beautiful knife pair. Thank God (or whomever) that has enabled me to finally outgrow/age my knife cravings. I am certain that the pocket knife thread of around 2 years ago (why January?) was the final cut. So far, so good and the trend line is "no more!"

My wife has a phobia about my knives so I would have to keep them somewhat hidden. As my collection grew then hiding them became a bigger problem and my wife’s phobia just got worst! My solution was odd but it satisfied the problem at hand. There is a large drawer under our oven in which I created an optical illusion. My wife had lined all the kitchen drawers with identical drawer liner material. So I cut a piece of plywood the size of the bottom of the drawer and covered it with that liner. Then under that I placed practically all my knives separated with slots cut in boards. This way they were hidden by a false bottomed drawer so horror movie boogie man couldn’t find a knife to harm us!

LOL - Think of it as a single stack with a cabinet at top, then a microwave, then the oven and then finally this big drawer which is 9" deep and only 4" from the floor. So unless it was Sam Short boogie man then Joe Average boogie man's eyes couldn't detect the sense of a false bottom!

i think you are looking a a bread knife. I have three. One beside the chinese cleaver on the left, one on the far right with an oak guide/uber blade and the third to the left of the one on the right. I have more bread knives but they have been relegated to things like sod cutting.

This reminds me that my Grandmother used to collect spoons. A different spoon for each state that she visited. There would be a design on the handle or a figure on the handle representing a theme of that state. She displayed these on a special spoon rack on the wall. For "fun" when I visited....sometimes I would get to polish them!
