270mm is just average from what I've seen on those sites....GrateEggspectations said:

Those knifes are gorgeous! Funny talking about a knife, measured in teeny-tiny “mm” as being unwieldy. 270mm is like 3 inches or something, according to my US education.

Good call on the wood holder, SWMBO ruined a few blades on a metal strip holder before I switched to a dedicated wooden knife drawer a couple of years ago.GrateEggspectations said:
Yes, totally agree. Who wants metal surfaces scratching finely polished blades?! My wife bought me that holder last year. I wax it a few times a year. I ordered Gestura spoons from KnifeWear; they were sold out 5 minutes after I received the re-stock notification.

I used the Chinese cleaver Kenji Lopez recommends to try and cleave a pork shoulder. Left a big chunk of blade in the ham. Threw both ham and knife in trash.Canugghead said:@GrateEggspectations Can it cleave turkey drumstick as well as my hack saw

What a beautiful knife pair. Thank God (or whomever) that has enabled me to finally outgrow/age my knife cravings. I am certain that the pocket knife thread of around 2 years ago (why January?) was the final cut. So far, so good and the trend line is "no more!"Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. I set up a knife drawer when we moved into the house. nothing too fancy in the drawer, but they are safe and easy to get at. Only one that doesn't fit is the big pizza knife .

My wife has a phobia about my knives so I would have to keep them somewhat hidden. As my collection grew then hiding them became a bigger problem and my wife’s phobia just got worst! My solution was odd but it satisfied the problem at hand. There is a large drawer under our oven in which I created an optical illusion. My wife had lined all the kitchen drawers with identical drawer liner material. So I cut a piece of plywood the size of the bottom of the drawer and covered it with that liner. Then under that I placed practically all my knives separated with slots cut in boards. This way they were hidden by a false bottomed drawer so horror movie boogie man couldn’t find a knife to harm us!kl8ton said:

I understand snuff spoons, and powder applicators, but these look like an OD waiting to happen if you used it as a booger buddy.Gestura spoons are special for several reasons:1. **Craftsmanship**: They are handcrafted in Niigata, Japan, a region known for its skilled artisans. Each spoon is stamped and etched, then finished by hand on a lathe.2. **Material**: Made from 18/10 Japanese stainless steel, which is known for its durability and resistance to corrosion.3. **Design**: The spoons are inspired by antique American and European designs, giving them a vintage look. They are tumbled and unpolished, creating a matte and imperfect finish.4. **Versatility**: The 01 Silver Spoon, for example, has a single tablespoon volume, making it useful for measuring, mixing, and serving. Its design includes a deep well for cradling liquid and a tapered tip for precise pouring.5. **Ergonomics**: The long handle (9 inches) allows for easy stirring and reaching the bottom of pots, while the flared lip helps scrape corners of pans or containers. These features make Gestura spoons not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, making them a favorite among chefs and home cooks alike.____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli -

This reminds me that my Grandmother used to collect spoons. A different spoon for each state that she visited. There would be a design on the handle or a figure on the handle representing a theme of that state. She displayed these on a special spoon rack on the wall. For "fun" when I visited....sometimes I would get to polish them!Large, Medium, MiniMax, 36" Blackstone
