Botch - Couldn't let that ^^^^ go by without a comment or two. Got the album from my brother in law who among his many jobs and talents worked for the local radio station doing live community college basketball commentary home games. He also did a stint as a DJ at WEZY radio station in Cocoa, FL. Gave his sister this album. Trivia - Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss created the label that produced Baja Marimba Band. 1965 Oh My.
Found this one also from BIL -

^^^ Very cool, glad someone else has even heard of them (I do have their GH album on vinyl, learned of them via Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass, back when my classmates were all into the Beatles).  Although very kitschy, they were very good musicians and did some very ear-catching chord substitutions and key changes.  Like this:

This popped up on ewetube, haven't seen it in several years.  The late, great Roy Clark was an overlooked monster!

This may be only of interest to the musicians, but there's a few of them here so I'm posting it.

"Dead Wax" is a video podcast that I'm fascinated with, founded by Jack Conte (he is also the husband-side of Pomplamoose, and, just as a side gig, CEO of Patreon!)  Here they interview Wendy Melvoin, guitarist who joined Prince at the ripe old age of 19 (and, today, she reminds me of... my Mom!).  They start out discussing the funk of Earth Wind & Fire, talk a lot about how it was to work with Prince, and also bring up the exact same artists that I held dearest thru my own life (Vulfpeck, Miles, Joni Mitchell, The Meters, Tower of Power, Kool and the Gang).  I never got to the proficiency of any of those folks, but they were what I listened to and I guess I was raised right/lucky!
Cool discussion about what makes funk, "funk" (dragging but not pushing around the One), Prince's grueling rehearsals, and the distinction between an Artist and an Entertainer.
I'll be watching this a couple more times.

EDIT:  Oh, and if you've never listened to classic Earth Wind & Fire thru headphones, do yourself a favor...)   B)

This is absolutely killer, and I have a new CD to buy tomorrow.  I'm not in the mood for what I call "athletic Prog" very often, but when I am, these guys scratch the itch.

A lot of my musician friends mock me for liking Duran Duran, and at first I thought they were a "pretty boy"/made-for-MTV band, but their melodies had me singing in the shower many mornings.  I eventually grew to be a huge fan.  I've performed "Rio" on stage many times (one of the few tunes I sang lead) and this tune, "Ordinary World", which is fantastic;  enjoy!

Recently been watching/listening to "Dirty Loops", a three-piece Swedish fusion band with killer chops/vox.  Here is a live spot, with them playing with Cory Wong (rhythm guitar/Vulfpeck group) and an 8-piece horn section whom I'm unfamiliar with, but are tighter than a nun's bum.  An absolutely killer Thriller!

It takes some melon-sized balls/chops to re-chord a Stevie tune, and then blow it completely out of the water like this.  Dayum!!!

For decades, I thought Rick Wakeman was a ****.  Every interview I'd read in Rolling Stone, Musician, and Keyboard magazines over the decades, he came across as an absolute ****!  I know a couple folks who have met him, and their opinion was quite different (and I've always wanted to play Roundabout in a band to try that Hammond solo; it never happened).

Here he plays a solo piano classical interpretation of Bowie's Space Oddity, and it's captivating, wow.  Nicely filmed in a beautiful cathedral that seems to be unheated.  Enjoy.

This popped up on my ewetube.  Unfamiliar with the harmonicist (?) but this is one of the most haunting movie themes ever written; I need to watch the movie one of these days.

I guess I'm officially old now.  This song won Song, and Record of the Year at the grammies last night:

This Record was also released this past year (not eligible for Song OTY as it was written in 1969) but, the contrast....  :|

A new one! Here Vulf Peck paired up with four male vocalists, often singing in unison a capella, but then occasionally breaking into 4-part harmony, very EW&F, LOVE it!

Their new album comes out soon, but only on vinyl.  Now that I have a decent streamer, I guess format doesn't matter anymore, yay!

    Max Cooper, 3D Reworks 001

This is an electronic music EP, done in a "binaural" recording.

From what I remember, a "binaural" recording is normally a live music performance (usually classical) that is recorded with two small mics inside a styrofoam human head's ear canals, and what those two mics hear in the auditorium (the musicians, the reflections and reverbs in the hall, the old lady who keeps clearing her throat four rows behind you, etc) are exactly what goes into your two earcups or IEMs, so you hear exactly what you would have heard had you been there in the hall.

Now, how does this work with electronic music?  I'm not really sure; my guess is that the final stereo track was just mixed/mastered on headphones, rather than speakers.  It's quite an experience, I'm streaming it right now from Apple Music.  Worth a listen if you like listening thru headphones or IEMs.

@Botch a little something I created this afternoon that has some musical/satyrical feel:

I’ve only just begun to lie,

Bald faced and arrogant, a kick to start

    Then you’re on the ground

    and yes I’ve just begun.

Before the rising sun, you’ll try

    So many laws to break

You’ll start out laughing and learn to cry

    and yes I've just begun.

Tearing alliances that were useful once

    Removing guards along the way

Hawking gross tchotchkes on free media

Working against you every day, forever.

And when the evening comes I type,

    Ramblings on TWITTER X

Hoping you’ll buy my bars and hit the like, forever.

    And YES I’ve just begun.

Ran across this list of the 50 Best Audiophile Recordings; a good list, I already have 30 of the titles but now have 20 more albums to listen to via streaming:
    https://www.headphonesty.com/2025/04/audiophile-albums-show-off-systems/?fbclid=IwY2xjawJbhI5leHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHctDg9HZKIh0vHBu7FlL8u3NXizowKgnIDBTebTnVp6teLCfvjikEF6lzQ_aem_kOyZFFExiKB928gaWIL0-A

... and right now I'm listening to a new album from Carlos Santana, Sentient.  The first track features a poor rapper and I didn't like it, but the rest of the album is really good.   B)
