I think that old joke about if you can't do, you teach and if you can't teach you coach is funny. Unfair to the good career teachers for who teaching is a vocation, but we've all had those other teachers.
I guess I never thought about it in relation to professors where teaching is equal or secondary to their research and publishing, including bringing in grant $ to fund the research.
