Fat cap up, and put it in a half pan!  Let is simmer in it's own juices for the win!

I've been using cowboy for a while now, it looks different from your bag but I like it. People on this forum hate it but it didn't really stand out to me for me by being great or terrible.

Get some Cowboy roaring hot and just throw the butt into the coals. Caveman for the win!

Sorry @Mr1egg…but seeing that you are a newbie on this forum for less than 3 years then I guess those opinions of us old farts who have been here for 24 years then you seem to dismiss us as being too near sighted!
But I can recall when CowBoy went thru periods of just using dry kilned building scraps like 2/4s, flooring cutoffs and rumored dumpster trash! Perhaps that was a very dark period during Cowboy’s ownership changes and whoever brought Cowboy back to life!

BTW I do know that the one longest believers/users supporters of Cowboy Lump has been our long time egger buddy @fishlessman !

I don’t think he was dismissive at all.  He acknowledged we hate it.  Then said his experience is neither good nor bad.

I have never tried it because I saw all the photos of wood floor scrap, trim pieces, and green banding straps from the various bags.  I never found the need to try it.

His experience sounds like mine with Royal Oak.  It isn’t great and it isn’t terrible.  It gets the job done and is priced right.

Rockwood is my gold standard, but I will burn other stuff too.

I burned a bag of blues hog recently and was impressed. I needed to spend $50 at Ace for my coupon and they only had one bag or RockWood. Which is shocking because I thought I was the only one who bought it in town and they usually stock two.

I like to reuse old cedar shake shingles out of neighborhood trash bins, plank a Boston butt on it, then douse it all down with squirt bottle blues hog sauce. Done when IT hits 77 deg f.  So good.

I like to use the crates of Prince Edward Island mussel shipping containers and smoke with them. The first time I did this I didn't realize someone had taken the beards off of all the muscles and left them inside the crate to dry against the wood. I can't even describe the taste of smoked butt and burnt beard trimmings. Still, with enough blues hog sauce anything tastes great.

the flooring cutoffs were actually a clean burning hot, easy to light lump. it did go downhill a few times after that. now its like royal oak with hickory lump added in. still using it
