In Memory of Carolina Q

I unfortunately bring some not so good news to the forum this afternoon. We have lost our good friend Michael or how most know him as, "Carolina Q".

I noticed a few years ago that Carolina Q hadn't posted in a few weeks or maybe even in a month. Which wasn't like Michael. He was almost a daily contributor here on the forum. So I sent a quick message to Carolina Q to see how he was doing. The message I sent through the forum went to Carolina Q's cellphone. I received a message back from his son Dave telling me about Michael's passing.

I'm going to keep the message from his son private but I do want to make public what Dave said about Micheal and the forum:

"I know he had some friends in the forum and spoke fondly of you guys a lot."

I'm sorry I didn't mention Michael's passing earlier here on the forum. It wasn't my time or place to mention anything. I did reach out to a couple people in private messages when something came up but I didn't want to overstep any boundaries.

I hope it's okay that I mention something now. I did try and contact his son through Carolina Q's account here on the forum about a month after the first initial contact but with no luck. So I figured it was just best not to mention anything for the families sake.

I'd love to have everyone take a second when lighting their BGE's next time and think of Michael. What an awesome member and even better father and friend!

*I'm sure his family would love to hear any memories or stories you might have of Michael.

Sorry to hear this. Earlier on when I joined, circa 2016, @Carolina Q was a very active contributor and I remember only good vibes. Rest in peace.

So sorry to hear this. He was a regular on the old forum as well. Most well known for his aversion to salt. Makes me wonder about some of the other regulars who’ve disappeared, @Sea2Ski and @SciAggie come to mind

Thank you for sharing his fate with us.  I really liked Michael a lot, I didn’t know him outside of the forum, but he was always quick to help and loved his banter.

    RIP my forum friend.

I remember the same about him. IIRC, he could teach a masterclass on deep dish.

Always sad to hear of a forum member passing. Many of us are friends here, even though we haven’t necessarily met in person.

  • Sorry to learn of this.  He was a good guy for sure.

I always thought it was funny that his handle here was “Carolina Q” when he actually lived in Connecticut, I think.  If I recall he lived in NC for some time.

I loved his “tell it like it is” attitude.  You always knew right where he stood.  Not maliciously or meanly, just this is how he sees it.

Always offering advice and help.  Definitely a missed presence around here.

If you had a question or needed help Carolina Q was always there to help. He was the encyclopedia of the forum. He could almost always find an old post or recipe someone was looking for.

This is where I could use Carolina Q's help. One of my favorite pictures of Michael's was a picture of him cooking on his mini in his fireplace. I found the picture with a little digging but unfortunately the picture is in a jpg format and doesn't show up on the forum anymore. Carolina Q was always helpful with picture issues when something didn't load right.

You can take a screenshot on your phone then post that.  That is how I fix sizing/scaling issues

Unfortunately it's in a link format that won't open.
