Given most everyone has subscriptions to multiple streaming services, how much would you pay (hypothetically, of course, just doing some market research) for monthly or for 12 months of unrestricted forum access?  See who is hitting dislike, post large pictures, embed any website links, and more!  A green checkmark by your name!
I’m in, $0.12 monthly for non-anonymous disliking alone.

Posting large pics would just pisss @Botch off.

    Green
    Red
    Black

    - as long as we are all supposed to be color blind then why the hell the aversion to a black PRIMO? As I recall the story - George left the infant BGE company that he helped Ed Fisher get started over some long ago forgotten spat and started PRIMO. Again as the story went, the early PRIMOS were identical to green BGEs but were black in color. Soon thereafter George came out with his QUITE POPULAR oval design!

Non-denominational question here:  is there some mechanical/structural reason a square/rectangular ceramic grill can’t/shouldn’t be built?  Asking for a frie…  (Actually I hate that guy…).

Well, kind Sir...While I'm no expert in ceramic engineering I did take a class in college and I am a smart ass enough to probably answer your question with a smiggen of authority!

Ceramic grills are made using a "slip" method of a solution that is quite wet when it is poured into molds. As the water is pulled out of the slip into the molds then it eventually becomes strong enough to stand up on its own to be fired at an extremely high temperature in a kiln. These units are called "greenware". Stress is enviable even in these round units AND HERE you go @Botch...any square or rectangular greenware would most likely crack quickly and be trash!

Now, aren't you sorry you asked??? =)

It's been a fun read, some spot on info, some maybe not so much. I guess because of who and what we do, we get more than our fair share of warranty calls across all kamados.

When shopping for an EGG, I would not ask the dealer if they handle warranties, as you'll get the "sales" answer....yes.  I would look for the unusual but common warranty parts in the dealer showroom.....firebox and fire ring.  If they have them, then good chance they handle warranties.

The ease of buying a used kamado on the various platforms has pushed mfgs. to be more diligent on claims. I can't blame them for that, as many of these used grills have 'hair' on them.......

Stop it with your reasonable, informed, and measured responses!  Can’t you see we are venting! 😂

  • Got my Egg in 2012.  Used in 3-4 times a week.  Smoke is rolling out of the bottom.   Depressing I will have to leave BGE to get a competitive product.

Bought mine in 2011 from the only local dealer and there was no registration card, nothing. Also no number of any kind in the Egg, not even under the gasket. But I had the foresight to scan in my store receipt. When I needed a replacement firebox, I took a picture of the broken one and a copy of my original receipt in to the dealer and he ordered a new one for me. No replacement until they got their next regular shipment, but that was OK.

I can't imagine that I would be able to do the same thing now, so I'm another one who would definitely consider moving to a KJ if the need arose.

  • I bet every single person on this forum has at least one warrantable part broken on one of their eggs at this very moment. And frankly haven't wanted to mess with it.

LOL, I was venting too, maybe more politely....measured. t

  • Finally, after 6 weeks I got my replacement fire box for my LBGE from my ACE dealer yesterday.  Yes, I had to jump through all of the hoops, some of them twice, but success.

  • Yeah, I’m pretty bummed.  I bought a BGE XL in 2005 from a large dealer at that time, they closed their doors during COVID.  I also own a Primo I bought from same dealer in 2014. My Primo fire box cracked last year and I submitted a warranty claim and despite of me not having proof of purchase, out of customer good will, they sent me a replacement box.  Well the first of December I noticed a crack in my XL firebox.  I submitted a warrant claim without proof of purchase and there is NO serial number at the back of the hood.  They have not responded to emails, texts, or returned my phone calls.  I wish I could do it all again and this time buy the Primo XL instead of the BGE.

  • Back in 2005(?) a new dealer in the area donated a Large with Nest to the local VFW. I won it in a raffle. No receipt. No serial number.

It's been a solid product all these years but I only use it for smoking briskets anymore. I've been thinking lately of getting a larger one to make cooking fullsize briskets easier. So it looks like I'm down to a Primo oval or Kamado Joe now.

  • Bought mine is 2008 from BBQ galore which is no longer in business in San Antonio.  I've had a broken firebox and ring for a few years.  I stopped by BBQ Outfitters this weekend as the firebox is in several pieces now and they said they couldn't help.  Who keeps a 15 year old receipt?  I filled out a warranty card and my egg was not stamped with any numbers.  I haven't abused the warranty.  I waited until it was absolutely necessary and I'm getting screwed.  I purchased the Large egg when I was only 31 years old.  I considered moving up to an XL to accommodate more food, briskets, ribs, etc for large parties we like to host.  I guess I'm gonna have to look at the Primo.  I don't want red and no pellets for me!

So then if one can’t meet warranty qualifications , and buys a new replacement part like a fire box or base does the said replaced part carry the limited lifetime warranty?

I'm presently dealing with a warranty issue.   I can't get anyone on the phone,  I have 3 emails that haven't gotten a response.   I,  like a lot of others it seems,  don't have the original receipt and the store that the egg was purchased from is no longer.   I know I registered my egg when I got it,  and I'm fairly certain there was a place to upload the original receipt,  and that's all I'm asking BGE to verify.   I ended up just buying a new fire box outright because it's father's day weekend and my intent is to cook through the duration.   Kamado joe or a similar has been on my radar because my base has a hairline crack.   It's a shame

Always find the search feature helpful - resurrecting this old thread because.... I took my egg apart today as I had a rather long cook recently and long cooks mean extra greasy gunk and well,... you all know.
Hauled out the shop vac, removed the fire ring, fire bowl, kick ash basket, and vacuumed up all the debris and small chunks of unburned fuel.

    Good as new.

Pick up the fire bowl and it comes apart as I was easing it into place. Two pieces. It's Sunday, but my local Egg dealer is a decent sized hardware store that has, in the past, simply handed me a box with a new component inside when I hand them a box of dirty pieces. In 2014 they didn't even ask my name.
In 2019 they took my name and phone number and email, but they still handed me a new fire ring just for bringing in the old dirty one with a crack in it.

Today. Sunday. May 31 2026. I keep the old boxes in the shed and place the broken bowl in the box and take it for a short ride to the hardware store.

"Do you have the QR code from BGE?"

Umm.... "What the *&^% are you talking about?"

"We need authorization from BGE to replace parts under warranty."

Now I'm thinking who's going to pay to take my wife out for dinner tonight.
"I can do that from here on my phone, right?"
"Sure, just as long as you've applied for a warranty"
"I have, and I'm on the website... warranty claims... start a claim, here's all my info - phone number and address and everything. Cool - snap a picture or two... upload... DONE!!"

Email from BGE: "Thank you, now go home and sit on your cheeks and wait while we "review" your claim. It may take up to 48 business hours." Did I mention today is Sunday?

I can't say the reason I bought this thing 15 years ago was because of the warranty, but it didn't hurt when I made that thousand dollar decision. Now the goalposts have moved into the parking lot.

I have cooked the equivalent weight of a brontosaurus over 15 years. It's been a terrific backyard haven for me.
