I was enjoying the Cheeto Indicated (sic) thread then it got all political and the fun went out of it.
Our BoJo has to be seen through the prism of a Greatest Hits album. He was either born with, acquired or was rolled in all of the optimal glitter that a Tory PM needs. Naturally none of these are erudition, compassion or humility. He was artful in the extreme, a zeitgeist hoover and populist notion fabricator par excellence - and that's how you win an election, right?
Seems to me that winning an election is problematic in the way kidnap is. The idea is great, the conduct of it can be relatively straightforward too - but then you're stuck with a new problem of care, responsibility and codependence. As any sensible military commander will tell you, what's the exit strategy?
And that's sensible as in unlikely to be promoted or achieve VP in the post-carer military-industrial complex.
He's easy to joke about, laugh at, hold in contempt - but here's the thing; he's not the worst PM we've had. Not even in the last year!
Side note, re kidnap. Obviously don't do it. it's bad and wrong. But I was twice turned down for 'Hostage Negotiator' selection. My feedback was 'you're too honest'. I think they meant that I would not spin people along until they caved, fell asleep, or got overwhelmingly hungry for pizza (the basic tactics) and instead would very soon say 'look, he's you're problem; you want the money then you need to keep him captive and alive a very long time without dropping your guard, or, you kill him and then you don't get the money and we storm the place' I'll give you a minute to decide, then call you back. Thanks. Bye.
Where's the glory & overtime in that? I was just not one of them.

….or yet, Americans are deluded into believing NRA idioms like “guns don’t kill people, people kill people (uuuuhhh…duuuhhhh)”
that make sense to you Brits?

I quit watching 60 Minutes back in the 1980's after watching Ed Bradlee's fraudulent report on the Audi 5000. Haven't seen an episode since. Haven't really ever had a desire to resume watching the show but this kind of story has revalidated why I did quit watching what used to be (or so I used to think) a valuable show of community importance/interest.

You might not be able to access the story, which will be a blessing because it's in the Daily Mail that is the dog-whistle outlet for the passive aggressive, massively judgmental right wing masses. Ah, bless them.
Summary,
- Uncle Joe pops over and has not said lovely things about England (not Britain, this is the Daily Mail, and England - specifically the bit around London is Britain)
- UJ accepts a shamrock from Irish rugby player who is theoretically genetically linked to him, but UJ is cyborg right?
- UJ confuses 'All Blacks' the Kiwi all conquering rugby-ists with the Black & Tans. Well, they are very very different my friend.
- UJ remarks upon beating the Black & Tans.
- The Black & Tans were a 'special' police unit deployed by the Brits to Ireland to quell the IRA insurrection a 100 years ago. And hence much folklore and seething sentiment was launched.
Too much to unpack here about Ireland, but despite 25 years of 'peace' Northern Ireland remains combustible. Bloody Brexit merely adding fuel. But you know, it's by your side I will stay
Absolute staple of childhoods for several generations. Then iPads got invented an no one has the physical strength to turn pages anymore.
There was brilliant set of adult, not in a NSFW sense, versions a while back. https://www.penguin.co.uk/series/LBGU/ladybirds-for-grown-ups
