Yup, that giant beaver house looking thing is just slash pile. They come in after the fact with scarifiers to chew the ground up a bit and push some of the junk into piles. They normally then get burnt in the winter. That pic was from last fall. The area has also been replanted, if you look closely you can see some seedlings
