Sooo, we going shopping. Counter depth. Left side of fridge is “open” by about a 3’ window of no cabinet panel due to a miscommunication 12 years ago when we installed cabinets. No big deal, fridge had a stainless side panel. New fridges have black or gray sides. What to do? Old fridge Electrolux. Will not be buying another again. No room to add panel to block side window

This^^^ Indoor is OK IF it is in the freezer section, problems come when the indoor ice maker is in the refrigerator sectioncaliking said:From past threads on this topic, avoid an in-the-door ice maker.Visalia, Ca @lkapigian -
Yeah. So in door water and ice has both gone out on the Electrolux. New fridge will have neither. Ice in the freezer. Water inside the cabinet of the fridge. More concerned about the visual of the black or gray side against the white cabinets

Magnetic skins in various colors are available and may be an option for you...

If the fridge works fine, and the water and ice maker are the issue, would a countertop ice machine suffice?ColbyLang said:Yeah. So in door water and ice has both gone out on the Electrolux. Currently battling a GE Opal that makes ice when it wants to these days. It’s been my ride or die for 2 years now. SWMBO has demanded a new fridge. A new fridge we will get!caliking said:

I am going to follow this thread. My Kenmore fridge will be 20 in September. It has a water dispenser inside the fridge. My main problem is that Sears closed every store within 100 miles. Which means ordering water filters over the net.
I regret that nobody can make door mounted ice and water work out but I want another 20 years on the next one.On second thought, the water heater is a lot older than 20? -
A few years ago I went on a quest to find the best ice cube trays. Tried many sizes, materials, and brands. Thought the silicone ones would work well (they don't).fishlessman said:always works, even in the new fridges
Rubbermaid. Half the cubes fall out when I turn the tray over, the slightest little twist removes the rest instantly. Only issue I had were the cubes are somewhat half-cylinder shaped, but I'm over that now. Rubbermaid.“All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure.”

We had an opal for 5 years- sold it with the last house. Got the new GE version with the new house and it’s our all day every day ice maker. Both work/worked flawlessly. We have RO water in the new house. It’s way better than the hard water from our old house. Had to descale all the time but have not had to once in the year we have had the new one with RO water. Two thumbs up for the the GE/Opal ice makerscaliking said:

We have been researching this very thing. Every refrigerator out there sucks if you want ice/water in the door and counter depth. Leaning strongly toward Sub Zero now. Btw, for the price of a normal refrigerator, about 1K, you can add a stainless steel side panel…XL BGE, Large BGE, Small BGE, Weber Summit NGMemphis

Any issues with the Bosch fridge? Looking at the 800 seriesbuzd504 said:Our Bosch has stainless sides.Edit: no it doesn't. Gray. -
Have had good luck with Kitchenaid appliances. Had all Kitchenaid appliances installed in the last 3 homes we built, with minimal problems. Ice makers were on RO water. We move every 10 years, and include all appliances in the sale. So I can’t speak for longevity of them. I heard Whirlpool builds these, as well as many other brands on the market.
