Ahhh. Yeah, I used to test fly ash for total assay. Fuse in an induction furnace to prep, then use some various instruments like flame photometric absorption. Had to add up to 100%, miserable test.

I've seen pictures of you out riding. Why don't you collect your own rocks, they don't seem to be in short supply?Ozzie_Isaac said:Rocks. Bought 40 tons of rock.. Rocks have gone up 50% in less than 3 months. Wish I had invested in rock futures. -
Also reduces rust of the rebar. Then if you plow fly ash with lime into soil it can cure into a low grade concrete for road bases. My last project found that it was cheaper just to use 4% cement powder though, half the machine work.nolaegghead said:Ahhh. Yeah, I used to test fly ash for total assay. alaskanassasin said:@Ozzie_Isaac we run 72 degrees all winter. Last time I filled the tank it was around $1.29 a gallon. A few weeks ago we were down around 20% so I had them swing by give us a 250 gallon shot at 3.29 to hold us over until I can lock in a hopefully cheaper price. Our electric runs around $80 to $100 a month. Is phase one switch to electric and phase 2 solar? I have thought about it (solar) but using a $1,000 a year in electric I think it would be a long time to roi.
Electric rate in USVI is $0.52/kWhr. I installed 10kW of solar. ROI including tax credit was 2 years, 8 months. Propane only for cooktop. We are pretty much at $0 per month, except when I heat the pool (3 months @200/month).

Also, I recommend a welding glove. I use a dishtowel on the handle a lot of the time to shield my hand from the heat, but a welding glove works even better. Even with the built in heat shield, this thing pumps out serious heat.paqman said:
@Ozzie_Isaac I just received an email from the owner, I should receive mine in about a week. It was a nice surprise, I did not expect it to ship until a couple of months! Now I need to find a decent wok…Ozzie_Isaac said:

Picked up a broken fridge from a neighbor, a vanity being thrown out for a renovation, some unistrut from a friend and a couple new tools. The compact brushless Ridgid 18v drill and driver. Put them up against my old full size and they are relatively tiny.

The fridge looks fairly new, spotless. Asked neighbor what was wrong - said the fridge is freezing up. Should be an easy fix.______________________________________________I love lamp..

I had that issue once. I had blocked the vent in the freezer with a box accidentally. Since the freezer and fridge run off same compressor it meant the fridge always got to much cold air. Froze everything in the fridge.nolaegghead said:The fridge looks fairly new, spotless. Asked neighbor what was wrong - said the fridge is freezing up. Yep. That’s the lowest hanging fruit on diagnosing that symptom. Then fans, heater/timer, then coil cleanliness, then Freon/compressor/expansion valve…______________________________________________I love lamp..

So, these "neighbors" and "friends", are they actual people you know, or are they just folks who have a Thursday garbage day?

Yup, yup. Plug it in as is. May work if the vent was blocked. If not, listen for fans. That has usually been my problem. Fans tend to fail more often in my units. If that is not the issue, then I resort to experts $$$.
Always act so that you can tell the truth about how you act.

had a tiny earth quake pop the freezer open during the week, ice cream ran down the vent and clogged it. the fan has been a different problem, it kills mice and gets hung up

Canugghead said:If I may digress, my adventure with fridge ... the freezer section frosted up and the fridge section was warm ... took it apart and found that ... timer, heater, defrost thermostat all OK ... evaporator fan motor dead ... it was a long three-day weekend and I was too cheap to place an emergency service call ...temporary solution: duct taped a computer fan, operated it with a transformer on timer
the fridge ran colder than new!

...who forgot to lock their pickup?I've lived in this small, somewhat isolated neighborhood for 25 years that sits directly across the river from the French Quarter and was established in 1719. While I don't know everyone, it is pretty tight and I know many. Very high population density, some tough residents, and we have neighborhood bars, stores, etc.
People throw perfectly good stuff out, and I'm lucky enough to have 5600 ft^2 of storage and a pickup truck to play around with anything I find. And I can fix anything.

@tarheelmatt cost me $50+ this afternoon. All this talk of Cheerwine over the years peeked my interest. A pretty rare find up here in MN. The closest place that carried it was 30 miles the wrong direction. I found myself needing to hit Tractor Supply this afternoon which was 2/3 the way to the grocery store that carried Cheerwine. So I made the trip. (Plus a stop at a real dumpy thrift store that has some good deals every once in awhile.)
I found the Cheerwine but they only had it in a four pack. It says real cane sugar on the bottle. So I'm looking forward to trying it out. Unfortunately I gave up pop for Lent. So I have a few weeks yet before I can give it a try. This particular grocery store isn't a chain that we have in the Twin Cities. So I had to swing by the meat section. Low and behold I came across tri-tip. A strange sighting in a smaller town grocery store. I couldn't pass it up on sale for $5.99/lb. It's almost double that price per pound at the local grocery store. I wasn't expecting to spend $50-$60 during the quick stop for some Cheerwine but I can't complain.

That is very cool, I wish I lived closer to you. All the cooks and parties and friendly gatherings are amazing. If I was listing a house for sale in your neighborhood, you would make the listing as a benefit.nolaegghead said:

I made a run to Eureka, MO to get some stuff from stlcharcoal.
Of course I picked up some bags of Rockwood, but I finally converted over to Kich Ash cans. Plus upgraded my crappy charcoal basket that came with my XL when I bought used with a Kick Ash basket.
I also treated my self to a Shun brisket knife. Can't wait to try it out.
Everything is so shiny.
