Opportunity to purchase your very own Atlas F Missile Silo. 6,900 sq./ft. for just $380k, but only one bathroom. From the listing..."Property Details
Built on 11 acres of land, this property is home to a decommissioned Atlas F missile silo complex. The underground complex was designed to withstand a nuclear strike and has water, electricity and a forced sewage system to the ground surface. There is 6, 900 square feet in the complex with the upper two levels consisting of approximately 1, 200 feet of space. This area was used for the Launch control center and living quarters for the crew. The main missile silo is located at a depth of 170 feet. Also on the property is a 4, 000 square foot Quonset building with water, sewer and electricity. and a one room building for office or storage. This facility has lots of potential in whatever way you choose to go. A home, apartments or a Bed and Breakfast are just some ideas. If you want something offering security and uniqueness, then this property is for you."

In my youth I grew up in an area that had 12 of those loaded silos (radius anchored around a USAF SAC Base, Plattsburgh, NY) within around 30 miles of my house and the closest was a mere 3 miles away. The upgrades to bridges and other infrastructure to ensure the missiles could achieve the destination was incredible even at my now old but then young age. Height of the Cold War-
That program was short lived as the missile technology advanced.
No- I did not buy one, but I know someone who did a few decades ago but have lost contact. Not in the upstate NYS area.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Selling for big bucks to the rich millennials that want to survive a nuclear attack. Many have pools and hygrophonic gardens, with enough water, food and supplies for up to 12 months. Each level is 1 unit, selling for $1-1.5M. Crazy $hit! -

I have a buddy in Chicago, and a couple years ago his Dad retired. Now, at age 84, he's decided to re-read Dr. Zhivago. My buddy told his Dad he'd tried but couldn't keep track of all the characters. His Dad then emailed him this:

The first time he read it, he made this chart (in PowerPointless!) to keep track of all the characters, and this was just for the first 100 pages! Quite a brilliant mind (as has my buddy). I've never tried to read Dr. Zhivago, I couldn't get thru any of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novels on Sherlock Holmes, although that was because I couldn't follow the conversations.“The best way to execute french cooking is to get good and loaded and whack the hell out of a chicken."

I went down that Russian author rabbit hole years ago. This was another of those character filled stories and it was only about the first two weeks of a WW1 battle lost by the Russians.

To be honest, before I read the article I just figured it was the next step beyond terabyte, but its like three magnitudes bigger.
EDIT: (and yeah "magnitude" is not the correct word either)

"order of magnitude" is very subjective. In binary terms vs hexadecimal, that's orders of magnitude within an order of magnitude.Botch said:To be honest, before I read the article I just figured it was the next step beyond terabyte, but its like three magnitudes bigger.

I understood my Classical Physics courses in college (save the optics section) but I had to take one Modern Physics course; I passed it okay but it didn't make sense to me, at all.
The above video gets a lot into those concepts, and fun to at least try to understand.“The best way to execute french cooking is to get good and loaded and whack the hell out of a chicken."
