Egged Appetizer ideas for Wine Night?
SaltySam
Posts: 887
My wife offered to host a wine night with some of her coworkers. She asked me to contribute something from the Egg. Although I’m looking forward to the get-together, I’m kind of drawing a blank at what I could make.
I think we (my wife) want to steer clear of the tailgate/bbq vibe and go for more refined dishes. That rules out Atomic Buffalo Turds, unfortunately…because that would be hysterical.
Other dishes inside will include cheese trays, charcuterie, bread bowls, etc…standard wine night snacks.
Any ideas as to what would be impressive and appropriate?
I grew up on bologna sandwiches on white bread, so this is not my strong suit.

https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/anne-burrell/bacon-wrapped-dates-stuffed-with-manchego-recipe-1923534I’ve only done this as written in the oven, but no reason it couldn’t work in a pan on the egg

If you think Asian flavors will play well with this crowd, what about summer rolls?
https://cookieandkate.com/fresh-spring-rolls-recipe/
Haven't tried that recipe myself, but you get the gist of it. There are tons of recipes out there.
I've been thinking of leaving the noodles out, and making some with shrimp, cukes, carrots, etc. Make them any way you want. The dipping sauce can also be as simple, or fancy, as you want.
They look like a great summer appetizer.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -

Might be too much, but for new years I reverse seared filets, sliced thin and served on slices of toasted baguette and topped with broiled seasoned cherry tomatoes. Drizzled with a mix of olive oil, balsamic and herbs de provence.
You could easily swap the tomatoes for mushrooms (which sounds amazing) or do both. -
Equal parts halved cherry tomatoes, cubed avocados, crumbled feta and dress with a really good olive oil. Use pita chips or corn chips as a vehicle-
trust me- you will make this one over and over

Grilled pineapple skewers? A lot of my other appetizers are dips and probably not classy enough for wine drinkers. I did look up a recipe for marinated shrimp, they could be served on baguette slices. No egg involved though.

Do the SGH “Best appetizer that you will ever eat”. Slice it up and put toothpicks in the pieces all fancy like.
-
Dates stuffed with goat cheese and wrapped in bacon are our easy to make but always impress small dish

Goes with the wine theme, is simple and is incredibly delicious. Have made a variation of this for years.

A fun thing for a wine evening among friends is to pick one style of wine, like zin, or cabernet, or syrah, or sangiovesse etc. ahave everyone bring a bottle of that style in a plain paper wine bag.
Then the food can be paired with the style of wine and a friendly blind tasting can pick a winner.
When we do this we set a price limit on the wine to avoid a 100 dollar bottle and a 5 dollar bottle showing up and creating a rift.
I like Zinfandel for grilled food, or Italian reds.
I'll look for a recipe to share

im in the camp with the smoked cream cheese, really good and so little work. cut a cross hatch on top to avoid cracking, makes the appearance better. if you want to throw in a curve ball grill up some grilled prosciutto wrapped asparagus and drizzle on a little good soy sauce, use the real imported parma prosciutto. from what ive heard, asparagus is hard to pare wines with, give them a challenge.
