Smashburger gear?

Smashburgers in our kitchen are a disaster - no extractor fan. I am evaluating no handle cast iron options for my L or a Little Griddle. Cutting off the arms of that 17 inch Lodge pan seems... extreme. Anyone able to share some wisdom?

blackstone propane griddle, fast and convenient

Thanks but was more interested in BGE options.fishlessman said:blackstone propane griddle, fast and convenient -
Set the blackstone next to your BGE.
If that is not an option, look at the half moon griddle or use a cast iron pan with a CGS Woo. No need to cut handles, they will clear sidewalls with grate at felt level.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

use the big lodge with the dome open, theres really no need to shut the dome with these and they cook so fast theres no time. find a way to raise the grid so that the handle sticks out. i prefer the blackstone though, theres a burger on the plate in 3 minutes from lighting the griddle

I don't have one but it seems like the Little Griddle Kettle Q is a good option for a large big green egg.

Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -

do you shut the bottom vent all the way then? My past endeavors with the dome open is that a fire kicks up or sparks start to pop.fishlessman said:7smcb7 said:

yes, shut the bottom vent if things start to get out of hand

I've not used one, but if you're looking for a multi-use item for the Egg, I'd look into a baking steel (there's a Baking Steel brand, but also several generic options online) or some type of cast iron plate setter/deflector.
I have no affiliation with the Baking Steel brand, and have never used one, but think I'd look at something similar in the interest of maximizing cooking surface versus a cast iron skillet. Then again - if you've got a cast iron skillet lying around - give that a shot, first.Indianapolis, IN -
Didn't know these existed - cool!ColtsFan said:Indianapolis, IN -
I have one of these that I used on my KJ Jr.
That one is about 13" but there are other sizes - just search amazon for round griddle. It worked fine on my Jr. but when I bought the 22" Blackstone griddle a few years ago that is all I have been using for smashburgers.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. I’d second the Baking Steel. That was my go-to option on the Egg before I added a Blackstone. Does very well with pizza and baking of course, but it’s also a good stand-in for any griddle applications. Room to do several patties and also toast the buns. Just watch the fire - the steel can hold a lot of heat and is less easy to control temp than a proper griddle.jones2289 said:I've not used one, but if you're looking for a multi-use item for the Egg, I'd look into a baking steel (there's a Baking Steel brand, but also several generic options online) or some type of cast iron plate setter/deflector.

That's what I use. And a brick laying trowel for smashing them.ColtsFan said: -
Pro-tip, use parchment paper when smashing. You get better more even smash and no sticking.

It’s spendy but I love it, use it for just about everything and it fits well on my XLs

$42, made in the USA and no lip/sides to get in the way other than the handles.

It is. Actually bought for the egg, but it hasn't made it out of the kitchen yet. We use it for all kinds of things, especially breakfast on the weekends. I'm contemplating getting a second one for the eggs.Ozzie_Isaac said:

Used it grill side up on the stove last night for some shrimp skewers. Before the blackstone it was used for smashburgers on the egg.
Worked well with the CGS AR:

Find a local steel dealer. Mine sells cutoffs/scrap for $1 a pound. My 1/4x14x17" piece (used in my oven) cost me about $12. They will cut to size/shape it you like. Extra charge of course, but how bad can it be when compared to $129?! A36 steel.dmourati said:I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I have something like this. I have an xl egg. Put this on and let it heat up. You can lay tinfoil a few layers thick on the grid in front of you to keep heat and sparks from your face. They cook so fast and have a family of 5 so dome never shuts. Don't worry about bottom vent.ColtsFan said:
I put the ball on the griddle with a piece of parchment paper on top and smash that down. Peal paper off and move on to the next and flip when ready. -
I use a cast iron pizza pan, See this thread for example. 13 inch pan, standard pizza pan size. Any cast iron should work. The pizza pan fits on the large.Dave
