I’m not sure, maybe Lit can look back at your DM’s you sent him and find the answer.

Didn’t you guys used to call him Corky or something like that. I can’t remember completely but I think so. I’m sure that was meant to be a compliment and not a reference to someone’s mental or physical disability. Yeah that’s it.

It’s precisely the opposite. I repeatedly stated I accepted Careys response but you sycophants just keep stirring the pot. I feel obligated to educate you all. As an educator surely you can understand not letting class out prior to completion of the lesson. No?

As an educator, I am reminded of a student I once had.  I was comparing some of his exam answers to the solution, and some of them were identical, line by line.  My hunch was that he'd probably used Google to search for the problems during the exam.

So I called him into my office.  I showed him the answers he gave to some of the problems, and the solutions.  I asked him to explain his answers.

With a straight face, he told me that I had told the class they could use any material they wanted to prepare for the exam (this was true), and that during his studying he had stumbled across these problems on the internet.  And since he had a photographic memory, he had been able to memorize them.

So then I said, well, that does seem like a perfectly reasonable explanation.  I took back his exam and the solutions, and I said since he had a photographic memory, surely he could reproduce the answer he had given to problem number 3 at the board in my office?

He said "you see, Professor, the thing about my photographic memory is... it's only temporary."

I gave him the option of presenting that argument to an honor council of his peers or just taking an F on the exam.

    He took the F.

There's a difference between having the credentials and insisting on people referring to you in a certain way.  The latter is a bit on the douchey side.

The students do use that title around Duke.  I always found it strange.  I often shake my head and tell them "I'm not a real doctor, I don't deal with blood."

That being said we often congratulate students who successfully defend their dissertation by welcoming them back into the room with the committee and saying "Dr." and then their last name.  Especially for those who are the first in their family to obtain a PhD, it makes an impression.
