New Felt on BGE and first Brisket Prep

TurtleTiger
Posts: 93
I cleaned up my egg and put on some new felt in preparation for tomorrow’s brisket my first...sadly. Cooked a ton of butts, ribs, beef ribs, turkey, chicken, wings, pizza, but just never a brisket. Partially because of the time and somewhat due to cost. Well...stuck at home so what the hell in combo with watching Myron Mixon’s hot and fast brisket special on Facebook yesterday. Well here she goes. Injected her with 3 cups seasoned beef injection with 3 layers of seasoning. Sadly a friend that does competitions gave me the seasonings/injection and the order so I can’t comment to what they are right now.

PS picked up the Inkbird IBBQ-4T and looks like I’m going to like it. Almost got the signal and billows but we’ll see how this goes. I’m not sure if I need a temp controller but being able to monitor temps on a walk or from wherever is nice.

Little bit about prep from my buddy that provided it.Ones a stumps brisket rub, another is butchers bbq steak and brisket rub and the third is something I make which is a combination of some stuff that’s a little more coarse with pepper. The injection is butchers bbq brisket injection.

Wrapped at 170 hopefully for a better bark and maybe a better bite.

First brisket cook. It turned out great! Did the Myron Mixon method from his Thursday Facebook video except no sauce at the end. The flavor profile is great thanks to Mike McGlynn. I’d like more of a smoke ring, but it’s not to look at, its to eat and there are no complaints there!

A fine looking brisket.

Nailed that brisket. Congrats. Nicely done.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

What should I do to get that nice smoke ring? Oh and Happy Easter!

@TurtleTiger a smoke ring isn’t needed, but they sure look cool. A few things that help produce a smoke ring, one is cook it low and spray the brisket every 45 mins or so. Secondly you can add celery seed to your rub, this is a natural nitrate and will help you get the ring your looking for. That was an amazing looking brisket btw. Here is a photo of my daughters ring using the above 2 steps.XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2
