General Tso’s Chicken

Raining like hell outside so I pulled out the Air Fryer for supper.

Cubed up some thighs and did an egg wash then into a cornstarch and white pepper mix. Into the AF for 15mins @ 400.
Mrs3969 did the sauce which was some pepper flakes, garlic, ginger, chicken broth, rice vinegar, sugar and soy. Added in some sesame oil and green onion at the end and coated the crispy chicken.

Thanks for looking.

Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...

I have always been very skeptical of an air fryer.
My skepticism has been proven unfounded.

I was a bit leery too when my wife bought me one. I’m sold on it now. It heats up quick and doesn’t heat up the kitchen when using it. The thing I really like (other than the food) is that evidently it has some kinda great air filter that keep the house from smelling funky after cooking fried like foods. I would buy another if this one broke.GregW said:I have always been very skeptical of an air fryer.

I wonder how the air fryer compares to a convection oven?
Thanks

Looks awesome! Thanks for the info on the AF as my mom questioned me about one last week and I'm ignorant on the topic.

I have a convection oven also and have cooked baked/fried chicken with good results. Have also done baked onion rings and fries which I thought were great but something about the crunch is better and a closer resemblance of fried when done in the AF. I’m guessing because it’s a smaller box and higher air circulation is the differenceGregW said:

Thanks for the comparison. The air fryer does look like it gives superior results.Mattman3969 said:

That looks a helluva lot better than the Pei Wei we picked up for dinner last night as we were too tired to cook after a long weekend camping. Nicely done.
