Titan's are hot right now. Houston will beat KC today and we'll have an AFC South Championship game.

I'm enjoying how in a current NFL that adores and protects quarterbacks and pays them ridiculously more than other players, that the teams are winning with quarterbacks throwing for around 100 yards!
    Defense travels and wins championships.
How's that return on investment with Kirk Cousins?  He is surrounded by talent (Diggs, Thielen, Rudolph, Cook and a great Defense) and gets one win.

Hopefully the games today are good.  I like KC and Seattle.

Steelers had to win a bunch of games in a row to get a six seed and went on to win it all one year (2005) beating the #3 Bengals, #1 Colts, and #2 Broncos to get to the show.

Titans are surely hot but someone will figure out how to stop Henry and then it all collaspes.

I'd be curious to know if the statistics actually back this up.  Obviously a lot depends on how you define the "best team" in the league, whether it's say record or point differential or something else.  Probably somebody has studied this and actually looked at the data.

Right.  I'm also just not sure that "best record" equates to "best team".  Some divisions are just a lot more competitive than others.

100% agree. I'm not really sure what metric one can use to determine "best" team. I suppose the ever scientific and quantitative "eye ball" test or maybe the favorite determine by sportsbook odds.

I think Vegas might give you a pretty good place to start.  Which team was favored to win the SB at the start of the playoffs, vs which one actually won?

That sounds like Matt Leinart’s post game bitter after USC lost in ‘05.

“the best team didn’t win tonight”

And just about 50% of the World Series outcomes.

Best teams can lose and best teams can get beat.  Sounds like the Ravens got beat in this case.

Line movement follows the weight of liability to the books based on what is bet. The opening line, however, is usually a pretty good representation on what is expected to happen.

No argument there - it’s just a good indicator of what the *perception* of the best team is.  There’s probably a better metric to use, but at some point you’re basically reverse-engineering things.  Like you could look at what metrics correlate best with SB wins, at which point of course you’d find that the “best team” actually tended to win the SB more often than not.

Got here late. Is it true that the Texans were up 24-zip and three minutes later, it was 24-21?! Sorta reminds me of 28-3.
