You are still going to need a pilot for the take off and landing!

  • I don’t have WiFi in my area that’s any good. How well does the smobot work without it? Other than not having the remote access is there any downside to using it without WiFi?

As you said...WiFi is only needed to remotely monitor. If you just want to set a temp and run it don't need WiFi.

  • If you don't care about using the internet, the SMOBOT can actually act as its own wifi access point, so as long as you are in range of the unit, you can still check it from your phone.  Just wouldn't be able to anything on the internet while you're connected to the smobot's wifi.

  • Love my smobot. Have used forced air controllers for years with my eggs. This is a huge improvement over that method IMO.

Keep in mind tho that they tell you it consumes a lot more power when used in access point mode so plan your power supply/battery pack accordingly.

  • One charge on a simple $8.00 Amazon charger(smaller than my 5s iPhone) will last up to 22 hours.  Plug the thing back into the USB plug on your computer and it doesn't take long to charge.
