Opening Charcoal Bags With String

I've received alot of positive feedback on this video so I thought I would share it in here as well. The string on a charcoal bag can be frustrating to say the least. I used to just go for the scissors and cut it off. I've finally figured out the trick to getting the string to pull. Check out the video to learn it yourself.

always seems to be 1 in 10 bags were this doesnt work for me and i dont know why. almost like the bag people are screwing with you

I still just Angrily hit the bag with my Ash Tool, works every time

If you can’t get it open, just burn the end of the string. You’ve already got a lighter or torch ready to go anyway.

Actually I’ve grown bored using the torch so I’ve moved on.

I felt so accomplished finally being able to open the bag correctly. Thanks for the video. The bag on the left represents my opening skills before the video. The one one on the right is the new me!

A clean burn every now and then will take care of that.

My success rate opening bags of lump by the string:

I try the string for about 2 seconds, if it doesn't pull I wack the bag with my ash tool.

Little is more satisfying than zipping out that string without having to resort to the box cutter I keep with my bags. You’d think I’d have cracked the code by now, but nope.

Keep in mind that video is for bags with a double-string chain stitch (which you'll find on our bags, RO bags, BGE bags, etc).

Some other brands use a single-string lock stitch (lot of the south american brands). You can look up Shotgun Fred's old video for the lock stitch one.

On our old pinch bottom bags (before we had the flat bottoms), they has a tab you would pull that would release that stitch on the top. It came from the bag manufacturer like that, then you fill them upside down.

You can try this with some potato, flour, rice bags too.

That’s like the bags of deer corn I use. It’s nice.
