Dear Buffalo: About Vanilla
Dear @The_Buffalo - I hope you are doing well. You've been responsive to my, ahem, polite inquiries in the past so I thought maybe I could ping you again.
You were able to fix the issue of the missing quote button last time, which was great. Thank you! But we've had about a month or so with the Vanilla update and, well, issues persist.
1) Photos - they seem to be uploading for a lot of people at random angles. They also seem to show up with different orientations on different platforms. I haven't witnessed this myself, but others have reported it.
2) You can't seem to go back and remove a photo by editing a post once it's been posted. So that creates issues with #1 - we can't really fix our own posts. You can edit text, but not uploaded photos.
3) Quotes - it quotes the *entire* post, and what shows up is only some portion of the quoted text. We don't have the ability to quote precisely that part of a post that we want to comment on.
4) HTML editing - we used to have it, but not any more. You used to be able to edit the HTML code directly (at least on the desktop), when drafting a post or editing one, and now you can't. That feature might allow some of us who know how to code HTML to at least edit our posts with more precision.
Again thank you all for all that you do to keep this a cool and great place for everyone here. I'm sure some of the issues I've raised can't be fixed due to constraints imposed by Vanilla, but I hope you can at least look into this and see what can be done. TIA

If I may add, random "My Drafts" are appearing even though I am not posting to a thread

Strongly agree to the above! I guess there was some sort of "update" to the forum software, but everything about posting messages now seems WORSE!
- I liked being able to quote selectively. Why should people have to reread an entire post, when maybe it's just one sentence that I'm replying to?
- I liked being able to edit HTML. It let me indent a recipe, for example, making immediately obvious what's my own text and what's the recipe.
- And I, too, am suddenly finding odd drafts in "My Drafts" that never used to happen before.
If there is a way to reverse the "update" or to restore functionality, I'd be grateful, too!
Thanks!

I’ll add my John Hancock to this.

We used to be able to Preview what our post was going to look like. I miss that.
And please, lose the emoticons. I used the =) frequently and the last time I tried it, it failed.
One more thing, for a new paragraph, hitting Carriage Return twice has ALWAYS been a requirement. If you do that now, you get...
this. Doesn't happen anywhere else. I guess someone thought that was progress. Progress isn't always a good thing.
Thanks.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Every time I post a comment, it shows as a draft even though it has posted.

Works for me! And that is all I ask - thanks!

One thing I really liked about the forum before the update was how you could have rich text in your signature line.

I've been just copying the relevant material from the original post, typing "@someguy'sname said", hit Return, paste, italicize it, then typing my concise, insightful and delightful response below. Just like I did right now! It doesn't really take any longer than the old way, I don't think.
But on the other points, I agree. And its probably beyond Mr. Buffalo's control, the Vanillabean folks will probably have to fix the issues.

lol @Botch all of those steps are a PITA compared to how it used to be, especially on the mobile platform.

You can also click the floating paragraph symbol and format it as a quote.

Oooh, tan que!
Another minor point: I can only upload pics from my own desktop, not links to pics from elsewhere like we used to. Does make a difference in, say, the "What are you listining to?" thread...

To summarize brother Buffalo, the new changes suck for all of the reasons outlined above. It is difficult for me to understand how this is allowed to happen. I do hope you, and your resources fix this on all identified fronts post haste.

Well that's good to know! I hadn't seen that, and it does help. Thanks for passing that along!

This is what we had before:
This plugin is available on all plan levels and can easily be toggled on in the ‘Addon’ menu of the Dashboard.
So...perhaps someone with access to the Dashboard just needs to switch on the Advanced Editor.
This is what we have now:
The Rich Editor is the default, so perhaps there were some changes made and the editor reverted to the default.

If this is a Vanilla request thread, can you PLEASE add a target="_blank" to all posted hyperlinks so they open in a new tab. I am so tired of clicking on a link and having the page navigate away from the forum. You're losing eyeballs.
Thanks in advance. :hearts:

I just hold down <Cmd> (or <Ctrl> on Windows I'm sure is the same) while clicking and it automatically opens in a new tab. Most sites I visit don't automatically force opened links to open in a new tab. Look up the "Preferences" in your own browser, and I'm sure it'll show you the hot key combination that works on your browser.
That way you're not dependent on the site doing it for you, and it's easy -- no muss no fuss. :)
-
I can right-click and open in a new tab, and you're right - Ctrl also works (thanks, did not know that). The problem is that most forums (and twitter) that I frequent do it automatically, so I usually forget.
