Not at all- just trying to make sure the athletic skills and mental competition toughness (truly exceptional) are understood for what they are and not a pass for the lack of personal integrity.
However, when the audience is one (in his case) it is totally different than standing in front of several hundred people and feeling responsible for walking the walk. You either get it and the responsibility you own or you think you are above it.
BTW- I haven't had any breakfast cereal for close to 50 years (old here). 😎

kinda like the opposite side of some of the political discussions. Everybody has their own thoughts and can’t be swayed. This time the swayer is on the opposite side of the fence.

I get recognizing that his moral compass in his personal life leaves much to be desired. No argument there. I just don't see the value in continuing to repeat it over and over again. But maybe that's just me.

I actually felt that I exercised a good degree of self-restraint (said another way-letting it go) after the baiting here and on the Master's thread (let it go there as well) until the thread including the Dear leader surfaced. But given the near hero worship of today I understand and will refrain from any further comments on this topic unless he is somehow annoited Pope in the near-term. No Catholic here and the mess they have going on may give him lots of cover. 😎

Lots of judgement on someone and something that non of us really know all the details.
started by a crazy wife chasing him out of the house with a golf club. I suppose Tiger’s immorality had nothing to do with being married to a crazy woman.
Now 10 years later, you claim it’s only because of money that he’s “acting” like a good guy.
He had more money than he ever could have spent. Money was not motive. I guess his kids, mother and love of golf could not have possibly been his motivation and drive .
You are tough buddy.

I’m 37. To this day I still am “motivated” by Charles Barkley’s “I am not a role model” commercial. WHY DO I CARE WHAT HE DOES WHEN HE AINT ON THE LINKS?!? I’m not personally paying his salary. He’s not my kid’s teacher. He’s an athlete. A great one at that. Yes, he cheated on his wife. You’d be absolutely hard pressed to say you didn’t know someone who did the same thing. Why do his transgressions follow him to the grave? Because he’s an athlete? Please. Congrats to him. An incredible come back for a man who could hardly walk 2 years ago.

Why are sports figure less subjective to cheating on there own time ? Isn’t cheating still cheating no matter what time of day it is or who is watching?

@legume I guess everyone feels entitled nowadays. Sad days ahead.
This has almost been brought to an old Friday night affair.

Are there people here really suggesting he shouldn’t be held to account for the cheating in his *personal* life? I don’t think so. I think what folks are questioning is why those private personal transgressions should diminish his athletic achievement.
There seem to be two types of people here: those who can separate professional achievements - whether they be athletic or otherwise - from private transgressions, and those who cannot.

I think you may have just made my point. And I thank you for the cool conversation.

That would be a fairly ridiculous thing to claim. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

If someone found the cure for cancer, but they were a serial philanderer, would that take away from their achievement?

It is possible to walk and chew gum at the same time. One can both be critical of the private lack of morality and find merit in the professional achievements. Insisting that these things can't be separated seems confused to me at best.
That's all from me on this. I've said more than enough. But then my golf game has always been a lot more "in the woods" than "Tiger Woods".

I was also very judgmental of Tiger these past 10+ years, but also feel for him for all the physical injuries. I too have dealt with those, and saw my golf game struggle. Have been working out and rebuilding golf muscles to be competitive again, so I have to respect his work ethics to get back in shape. It’s hard work, both physically and mentally. When you compete at a high level, it’s really depressing to play poorly!

Yes and that is very common the past

So how does the Catholic church fit into all of this...

The actions of the church make Tiger, and nearly everyone else, look like outstanding people.

So why don't we forgive the politicians, stars, and business tycoons for their groping and lechery considering their great contributions to society?
Oh, wait......

I look at experts, across all fields, with awe.
Do yourself a favor and watch “the Woodright Shop” on pbs sometime. This guy makes log cabins and end tables out of heirloom hand tools. After I see this show, I BELIEVE I can whittle a canoe out of a mighty oak in under a half an hour... no joke.
Thats what rock stars do. We see the gig, we pick the guitar back up and imagine we’re on stage at MSG. We view the painting, and suddenly the potters wheel comes out of storage.
I saw tiger at the Masters ten years ago. I’d broken my arm in 19 places and 9 pieces, and stopped playing golf because of the slice that come from that. No fun.
He hit an amazing shot, the gallery exploded..
And then, suddenly, golf was fun again! I polished the wedges and drew lines on my balls. Tiger’s coffee table book was read cover to cover. I have a heightened appreciation for pimento cheese.
There are other golfers I root for more. Webb Simpson is a hometown hero and a classy gentleman. I like him more for those family values than his golf game, so it’s always a treat to see him on the leaderboard.
I like Tiger for his golf. I got to see him on four holes this Masters on Thursday. Even HE said his last four wins started with a 70 on the first day. When they announced the two tees for Sunday, I knew he was a lock - he won the previous two times that they did this.
Watch his iconic shot on 16 when the ball barely falls into the cup. It might be the most famous shot in the history of all golf by now. That energy of that crowd is what follows tiger around. And it’s FUN.
I wish tiger had the family man stuff under control in his past. I don’t know what he’s doing now with that. Who can predict his future?
but Tiger (and Augusta National) put me back on the course. Albeit - going after my personalized golf ball in the lake, with a sinking hand whittled canoe I’m bailing out with a clay pot/ashtray singing Kumbaya while strumming my guitar...
.... and it is FUN!!!
