Kick Ash Can

anyone have any comments about the Kick Ash Can?
The problem with a problem is that you don't know it's a problem until it's a problem, and that is a big problem.

I've been waiting for someone to invent it.  I used to make them out of foil.  Kinda like the big aluminum pans BGE finally produced that fits the platesetter perfectly.

I reached out to Kick Ash Basket the other day and got a reply earlier today... I asked if they'll be making a kick ash can for the medium BGE and it sounds like one is in the works and we could see it early this summer... It would be nice to have it available for my current BGE.
Need to install my kick ash basket into my BGE. Probably Saturday so that I can use it for the coming cook/smoke. Got the grate and stone lifters on Tuesday too. So I have a good amount of kick ash hardware now. ;)

  • $30 for a dog bowl with one side cut out? I'm thinking my angle grinder would do the trick for about $5 and maybe 2 minutes of my time. I like the idea of the basket but this is yet another solution to a nonexistent problem.

Electric windows, a solution for a non-existent problem?

If you can find the right size, and shape, dog bowl to do the same thing, go for it. I've not measured the opening size (and shape) plus how deep it would need to be in order to make one of my own.
I'm not so cash strapped (currently) that I can't afford to get something that would/could make my BGE experience better. Just like the kick ash basket that I got this week, plus other items that I don't NEED, but will make things easier on me. Or just improve the overall experience.

Agreed. Also, I’m sure that the stainless isn’t dog bowl grade either.

Just got them in yesterday.  They're nice!  Come on over, or I can leave one at the "IL warehouse" tomorrow for you.

These are much heavier and deeper than any dog bowl I've ever seen......but if you want to drive all over town looking for one for $5, then go for it.  No one said this was a MUST HAVE item, nor a "solution to a problem".  It's a convenience item.

Why did you spend $1000+ on a BGE when you could have just fabricated a hinge for two ceramic flower pots?  Or a 55 gallon drum, a used shopping cart, and your angle grinder could have made a smoker too.  Convenience, fit, and finish for the win.

Don’t imagine it will.  Ceramics tend to crack over time.  A thin layer of SS won’t likely change that.
i love my KAB’s but fail to see the utility with this add on.
