The 2012 Chateneauf de Pape had been sitting in our cellar since we returned from France back in 2015. I would say that was my preference, if I had to choose, simply because it was a once in a lifetime find for us.NorthPilot06 said:Which did you prefer?

The Sequoia Grove 2014 Rutherford Tonella, was about the best I have had from Rutherford area of Napa, ever.
It too, is very hard to find (for us, this far east), so it makes for a very special opportunity as well.
I have verticals of this for 13,14 and 15, which will not last too much longer, sad to say.
I am very partial to SG, as they produce some of my favorites, which compete, and win, against the bigger names in California. They (SG) have had several of their "regular" Cabs listed in the "Top 100" in the world over the last several years, and certainly worthy of their rankings (although, personally, I think they got hosed by several placed above them. I am thinking easily top 50, every year).
Either of the two would significantly enhance any evening, meal, or cause for celebration. We served them with some prime Med Rare sirloins last night. Paired very well.

8am this morning see a guy with a brand new dodge rebel in the parking lot looking thru one of the workers dodge window. open the big bay with the owner of that truck, can i help you. says he is looking for mark. mark who? the guy that installs the breathalyzers in cars. then says he got caught twice in the last couple weeks. guy could barely walk. sent him to marks at the end of a dead end. then called the captain, two unmarked cruisers went to marks. i guess three times a charm

Do you find switching wines an issue? I typically pick 1 good wine for the evening and anything that comes after will be sub-$10. Serving Cab on Cab is a waste, or following any wine with the same varietals is useless. I will agree with you there.
The two bottles were unique to one another, and according to our guests, amongst the best wine experiences, they had ever had.

Very interesting @YukonRon - I fully agree that a great first wine should be complimented by other great wines. I won't say that I don't have any sub-$10 wines in my house, but when I elect to open an excellent wine, I choose to follow with great wines (perhaps a slightly lower caliber, but still fantastic).YukonRon said:

However, I tend to open similar (if not the same) varietals - I've never unintentionally opened up a wine of a different varietal designed to compliment the prior selection (I certainly have, but out of necessary due to a depleted supply

We have sub $10.00 wine, just not in the reds. My Beautiful Wife adores a few certain whites, she found as bargains, which are all rated very high. Her thing not mine.
That stuff is taking up too much rack space.
