We'll see what tomorrow holds, could be Franklin's, Stile's, or who knows.  One thing is for sure, they don't make this quality of BBQ in MPLS.
Dan, I dare you to resist the Real Deal Holyfield

They could probably put a fresh turd on one of those homemade tortillas at Valentina's,  and I'd still eat it.

No Valentina's pics yet?  @MNEggerandStuff, you need to put on your game face and wolf down that brisket taco in time to get in line at Franklins.

We were face down most of the time.  The food came super fast and it was too good not to jump on.

Eating BBQ with chopsticks. Isn't that illegal or at least immoral or something?

If it's wrong, I don't want to be right. It is arguably the best brisket in Austin and you can walk up and grab a bite of it (with chop sticks) in under 5 min.

Well, it’s a Japanese/Asian smokehouse in Texas, so it seemed ok to grab a pair from the big bucket of chopsticks.

I thought the huge spoons were perfect for it, two bites/bowl.

  • Stile's is tasty! The line here grew to almost what Franklin's at about 1130.  Seems to be local workers coming on lunch a little later than those on a pilgrimage over at Franklin's though. First guy in line at Franklin's said he got there at 2am.

Nice.  Leaving room for something before your flight, I see.  Of course, there are options at the airport for you.

For your reference, Stiles and Valentina's are what would be considered "Honorable Mention" in the Austin BBQ scene. They are pretty much haunted by locals who aren't going to get in line at 2am to eat brisket. I really like both of them but there are 4-5 considered to be better. I would say that If you dropped Stiles Switch anywhere outside of Austin it would be the best place in town.

There is a Salt Lick at the airport. I would not say it is all that good (brisket from a bag reheated in steam trays) but it's probably worth a try for the sauce alone. It's really unique and you don't have to feel bad about using it. Because it's brisket from a bag. You can buy a whole brisket to take home there as well. It's not terrible.

I brought a whole pre-cooked one to Portland once, didn’t like it at all, but everyone there raved about it.  They rebuilt and expanded the salt lick at the airport earlier this year, I would stay away from a traditional bbq plate and go with some of their other other things that have brisket as an ingredient.  Some good breakfast stuff, but I’m not sure what the afternoon offerings are.  They’ll probably have tacos, maybe nachos.

And then walk across the walkway, past the defibrillator to Amy’s.

  • Is it okay to look for the blinking light on the defib showing it's charged?  Or is that considered taunting?
  • Mexican Vanilla Ice Cream at Amy's.  You will thank me.
