Pulling Egg Through Gravel

I’ve moved to a barn apartment and the egg in nest will live in a garage with a gravel floor and driveway. It is difficult and scary to pull the nest through some of the deeper gravel. Has anyone put larger, softer wheels on their nest? I am wide open to suggestion!

No direct knowledge here but many who move BGEs around the property endorse the Handler. FWIW-

edit: If you haven’t put a threadlock like loc-tite on your nest it’s a good idea as the vibrations going over gravel can loosen things up.

Couple pieces of plywood wouldn't hurt either , may only move 8 foot at a time but hey....

My mod has worked well over the uneven flagstones of the patio and over grass. No experience taking them over gravel, but I think they would work well.

Why is it in the garage? You shouldn't cook in there and the weather won't hurt it. Just park it were you'll be using it. Mine hasn't moved in 8 years. Or is that not an option because apt living is killing that idea?

If you HAVE to roll it over gravel, the plywood idea might work. Except I'd just get one sheet and cut it to 4'x4'. Easier to handle.

Or maybe large tires AND a Nest Handler? Never tried either.

Maybe this would work. Only 20" wide though.

Cut a hole in the top and pad it somehow. Or replace the top with wood. Bottom shelf supports 300 lbs. And you'll have a prep surface!

Whatever you decide, when moving an egg, always PULL, never PUSH!

Thanks All, I have a handler, and moving it through the gravel can be done, just not easily. I’m gonna look for some pneumatic wheels twice the size of the ones that came with the nest.

I would be a little concerned about a flat tire tip over. I would stick to some sort of nylon wheel personally. Tough one.

I got solid rubber 8” casters at harbor freight they were like $20 a piece. The issue is I don’t think you will find a large stable caster that has the single attachment point all the larger casters have the plate with the 4 holes that’s why Caliking made that frame around the base so all 4 holes had somewhere to go.

The way I modded my small egg, it has a wide stance and is very stable. You would have to want to flip it to have it keel over.
