OT- Coffee Makers

Keurig finally died, so we're looking for a new coffee machine. We want to get out of the coffee pod game, but a Mr. Coffee drip is a little light on features (ex. hot water on demand). Does anyone have any opinions on a good option as a daily coffee maker?

I ditched my De'longhi automatic machine a couple years ago for a Chemex and an electric kettle. Makes a mean cup of coffee.

Probably not what you want, but I would urge you to give it a try.

We are getting out of the Keurig game too. We use a tea kettle to heat the water and then a french press.

If anyone wants a new in box direct plumbed Keurig, let me know. I bought it for my wife for a gift. She doesn't want it. Didn't read the fine print. . . not returnable.

Insta boil and French press. Our favorite, by far. 50-50 blend with French Roast and DD regular.

Roast your own beans. Grind with a burr grinder to match your brew method. Brew with a aeropress or similar. You won't believe what you have been missing. So simple yet high rewards.

Thank you for the link. Seems like a good price. Downright bargain with the free shipping. Just showed it to my wife. She says why buy another when the one (two if you count the mini Keurig we take camping) works just fine? She has applied that same logic to my wanting another grill too. Thank you for the offer.
Oh, then she tells me when the Keurig dies she wants one of these. Seems she saw it at Williams-Sonoma and liked the "futuristic, modern look." I'm not sure what futuristic modern is but who am I to question?

I stopped drinking coffee a few years ago - but my wife still does, so instead of getting a Kuerig, we got a Ninja coffee bar - https://www.ninjakitchen.com/exclusive-offer/CF092WBKT/ninja-coffee-bar-system-with-glass-carafe/

Allows for 1 cup when needed or multiple when you have a party - and has some fancy attachments for when she wants frothed milk and such.

Had that. It now sits in the closet. Coffee not hot enough.

I have a Ninja now...different setup than that tho.

Loved it until a few months ago.

Coffee no longer hot enough. Used to be perfect.

If you want to make quality coffee with a drip coffee maker, get a Technivorm Moccamaster with the insulated carafe (not the glass). Proper water temp and extraction time (hard to find any other home brands that brew at the proper time and temp).

That sounds like good advice except she wants the red one, and "not the metallic red, but the shiny red." Dang, I should not have even mentioned it. Seems the thermal carafe model comes in black or silver.
Guess I gotta hope the Keurig keeps on working for awhile.

@g8golfer the French Press is pretty simple. Boil your water between 198-205, add desired amount of fresh ground coffee into the FP, then pour water on top. Stir, let it steep for 4 mins, press it down and pour. I've used one for 10 years now, love it.

For a drip the best I had was a Bunn, we graduated to a Breville espresso machine as the wife likes lattes. We still bring out the Bunn when we have company.

Thanks for the advice, guys. We're leaning toward the Ninja.

As for ditching the Keurig, it's been a long time coming. It breaking was the final straw. We just really liked to convenience. I get up pretty early in the morning for work and the on-demand coffee and hot water was worth the quality sacrifice.

Now to try to blend the convenience and something resembling quality.

The brewing portion is the same. I am not a fan of trying to hold brewed coffee in a glass carafe with a hot plate to keep it warm. If you drink it soon after brewing, the glass carafe should be fine. The Technivorm really is a quality product.

Coarse grind your coffee beans, we use about 8-9 tablespoons, makes about 1 liter. Place in the French press pot, pour boiling water over the ground coffee, cover let set for 4 minutes push down the plunger, slowly, pour into cup through a kitchen strainer, add whatever you like ( cream, sugar, bailys, etc.) Serve. We put ours in a couple 20 oz Yeti tumblers. Killer coffee.
We take it with us wherever we go. Just can't beat the coffee. We have tried to find better, but have not.
We will have it at BBIII. My Beautiful Wife will demand it.

Circle K gas station refillable cup. Don’t have a coffee maker in the house. My folks have used a Bunn for years. We’re easy though, black and strong is fine.

We use a French press for regular morning coffee. However, back in January at the request of MBW I picked up this Breville espresso machine, which I have enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would. It is great for afternoon cappuccino or, now that it's warmer, iced coffees. I agree with most on here it's hard to beat a French press for quality and simplicity.

French press is really good. Easy and fairly inexpensive. We have the Ninja Coffee Bar as well and we love it. You can do a single cup up to like 12 cup pot. Highly recommend it.

I have a French press, and I must be doing something wrong, because I think clean up is a drag.
