OT= Rustic lunch...

Pulled out some brats and had a hankering for cornbread. Relatively quick and simple. Made some gravy with the drippings too. Because I like gravy.

Ended up with this for lunch:

I had to make cornbread because a friend was telling us how good cornbread turned out  in an Instant Pot. Blasphemy.

caliprince enjoyed the brats a good deal. These were made last December (@20stone, @The Cen-Tex Smoker @pigfisher , were involved in that effort) from  one of our happy pigs.

I had some 'splainin to do though after I told the kid that the sausage was made from one our pigs . He wanted to meet him.I told him we made sausage out of him .

"Why?"
"Because we figured he would be tasty."
"Oh. Ok."

So far,  he's been ok with eating animals that have been named.

    Haha, when my ex was a little girl, she spent quite a bit of time at her grandparents farm. Helped raise a calf one summer. One day they all sat down to dinner and when they were finished, one of her uncles asked how she liked the meat. Then he told her where it came from. She ran to the bathroom crying - and lost her umm, lunch. Not sure she ever forgave him. :rofl:

    I'm all for blasphemy. How do you make cornbread in an IP?!

    I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

    "Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

  • When I was a kid we had a small farm. All animals were named.  We slaughtered Coco the cow and my mom made cubed steak and gravy. I said, "Coco sure taste good doesn't she momma?"  My mother never ate another piece of that beef.  She still ate beef, just not that one.

    You know what a hoarder I am :) Truth be told, we don't get around to eating much pork. At least I have the good stuff when we do though.

    Another friend of ours asked us to look after their kid's fish while they were on vacation. She was worried that caliprince would grow attached to the fish and would be traumatised when it was time for the fish to go home.

    About every 2-3 days, he would look at the fish longingly and ask " mama - can we eat Sammy?"

    As far as the IP cornbread recipe- sorry, can't help you. I stopped listening after I heard "cornbread in the Instant Pot".

    I dont have a PC but I gotta agree, seems like it’s taking something simple and making it way too complicated! Good looking lunch there.
