You'll be using a snow shovel for a pooper scooper. Might like to get one of those pet friendly vacuum cleaners. Other than that a house is not a home without a dog.

1. Crate Training (this is the easiest method of "potty" training
2. Puppy Obedience classes
3. Next level Obedience/other training (agility?)
Newfies are great family pets and very protective of their "flock"

It's a polar bear! I second obedience classes. Any other pets that will have to adapt? I imagine that this would be a cat's worst nightmare.

I do service work at two farms with these dogs, they get big.
The one is very mild mannered and is a watcher, always following at a distance.
The other is all family protector, if the kids are out it will always be in between me and the kids, if you make any quick moves twards them it bears down and starts to growl yet I've seen the kids ride it like a horse.

Fantastic breed, ours was protective and a complete escape artist! Found them to be very aloof, did not like to fetch or play with a ball. Loved to cuddle and have the family in view (herding instinct I guess)
