Does any one use wireless thermometers with their BGE?
They say you shouldn't really be opening the grill that often so how does one know when their meat is at the right temperature?

Welcome - I use a Thermoworks Smoke, one probe for meat, one for the pit. (Have an older Maverick 733 that I use if both Kamados are being used). Use on indirect cooks only. I like the pit probe as the alarm can be set and I can wander off to do something else. The meat probe is good for roasts, but final temp is always verified with Thermapen.
I never use the meat probe on chicken, turkey, steaks or chops. Too much trouble to get it set in the meat, IMO.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad! -
My Maverick 733 stopped transmitting a few days ago, so I upgraded to Thermoworks Smoke. Upgraded is an understatement. Maverick 733 is a toy compared to Thermoworks Smoke.Large Egg, PGS A40 gasser.

Yep .. me too. My Maverick died about a year ago, and it struggled mightily even when it was still alive. I bought a Thermoworks Smoke and it is awesome. It occasionally loses its range, but not often. It's way better than my previous Maverick.

Also if you are using the smoke do you still need to use the Thermapen?
-
Yes, that's the one.
I still use my Thermapen.Large Egg, PGS A40 gasser. -
I use my Thermapen on everything and on a very frequent basis. The Smoke is for your low and slow cooks. It monitors both the temperature of your food and the temperature of your cooking grid.

Does the wire on the probes damage the gasket on the BGE or will it leak heat and moisture since the wire will have some sort of obstruction on the gasket?
