Of course not!  Get you some Rockwood either at local Ace or Firecraft.com.

Royal Oak is nice and can be found at Home Depot. I'm currently on a bag of B&B or something like that from Wally World and it does 'ok' for general grilling but probably wouldn't be the best for smoking. Also check out nakedwhiz.com - they have an entire page dedicated to breaking down almost every lump charcoal on the market.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey.  Above all, have fun.
As above, give the search function a look, there are more lump discussions here than even religion or politics.  Matter of fact, lump threads are more volatile than politics or religion.  FWIW-

Welcome, and once you decide on a lump brand, we can enter a whole new discussion on how to light it - it is all part of what Lou calls the journey! Enjoy it regardless!

FYI Big Green Egg brand is Royal Oak. You can get Royal Oak in red bags at Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc and it is usually much cheaper. Watch for sales and then stock up.

There is better lump out there but I find RO to be fine and it is readily available at a reasonable price.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I can attest the 15.4 lb RO lump charcoal available in Walmart is the cheapest I can find but I've noticed BGE lump has more big size lumps than RO.
I would have to actually buy a couple more  bags  of each brand, open each one and then lay them all out to really draw a conclusion

You would have to buy more than a couple more bags before drawing a reliable conclusion.  Lump size is greatly influenced by how a bag was handled from the time it was filled until you get it.  Your sample may contain bags that savage baggage handlers were in charge of!  You will not know which bags were filled with small pieces vs which became small pieces during transport.
