Complications from surgery DEFEATED!

My appendectomy led to a second major surgery and a month of so of disability. But that officially ended yesterday! Even though I went back to work last week, I didn't consider things finished until I managed a BBQ. So yesterday a few friends came over to help me change the cover on my backyard canopy, and we thanked them with some tri-tips from the Big Green Egg, along with a bunch of sides, and some good wine. The star of the wine parade was a 2006 Caymus Special Selection that I decanted and let breathe for an hour. One of our guests is a certified sommelier, and she pronounced it exquisite. And the tri-tips sure disappeared quickly! I didn't get pictures as we were busy entertaining (and quaffing wine) but I assure you it did happen. Since my surgeon says I still have to be careful about lifting anything heavy, I had one of our guests take the bag of empty wine bottles to the recycle bin....

I have what I hope is the last appointment with my surgeon in an hour. And I am wearing pants to work today for the first time. (I was wearing sweats because the elastic waistband was more comfortable.) Thanks for all the good wishes. Next weekend will be pulled pork!XL BGE in San Jose, CA. Congrats on your recovery. I thought I just had a stomach virus. Turns out it was a ruptured appendix and it was gangrene. My brother now refers to me as "Earnhardt tough", lol. Hospital stay and recovery from that kind of surgery is no laughing matter. One word of advice: DON'T OVERDO IT. I scoffed at the "do not drive for a month" order from my surgeon. They tell you that for a reason.
If anyone offers to help, let them. Great to have friends to come help with the canopy and I'm sure they enjoyed the tri-tip and great wine. It was awhile before I could egg again. Steady as she goes, my friend.
