That is $75,000 worth of mushrooms where I am from. Last time i was in Boyne City, MI for their Morel mushroom fest, they were being sold on the streets for $50/lb. I could have that wrong, it may have been $50 for a 1/2 lb. I thought the price was crazy, until i tried looking for some myself. . .Hntnhrd said:None taken. Our morels grow after forest fires here. My best year I picked 1500 pounds. Most years I am in the 500 plus pound range. Way different flavor, think smoked. We also get three different kinds . The conicas ( brown single wall) come first. Then Later we get grays ( double walled) and if conditions are just right we will get greens ( -almost solid). I feel just frying them leaves them kind of bland. But that's my taste. Everyone is different

I have a Frankenstein size knee brace, the surgeon is making me wear for 6 weeks. It is a royal PITA to wear and walk in.
I told you that, to tell you this; it is getting the job done. I am walking, I use hiking sticks and have become very reliant on them for stability while on the trails. I will occasionally use a cane, but, I am good.
My problems are zero compared to many others out there.
Truly looking forward to seeing you at the NCBB. Take care my friend.

This brings back memories. My dad was a hound for mushrooms. We discovered Chanterelles, long before they became a gourmet thing. My Mom would can them and we would often end up with 50 pints in a season. And of course, every spring we headed out for Morels.
I was away at University, when he found a particularly great stash. Took them home, and my Mom cooked them all up. It turns out that if you eat enough Morels, which I think is about a pound, then they are hallucinogenic.
So Dad passed that threshold, and was looking across the table at my brother and says "how many of you are there?!". He then goes on a full blown magic mushroom trip. Thought he could fly among other things. From a guy who never touched drugs of any sort in his entire life.
When all was said and done, he said he could understand why people seek out magic mushrooms and other stuff. I guess he was euphoric. Always wished I was around to see that.Winnipeg, Canada -

We picked mushrooms for decades and never suspected either. Also, we definitely knew how to avoid false morels. Others at the same meal never had any symptoms, but they never ate the same large quantity. It never happened again either.YukonRon said:I had no idea. I wouldn't know what to look for and would probably come home with poisonous shrooms or dried up bear turds. You guys are lucky to have a source and the skills.
It would also be like looking for shark's teeth with my daughter. She can see them on the beach from 40 feet away. Me, I can step on the dang things and still not see them.
I can't even find the ketchup in the refrigerator door without my wife's help.
But I can do a mean Boston Butt.
