I'm a bit of a nut about keeping my grills clean, real clean. How in the he!! do you keep the stacked grates clean? Mine are a gooey mess.

Was thinking of getting a Great Scrape - a cheap knockoff made locally, to be precise.

Use the ash tool to scrape. Anything that doesn't come off stays along for the ride. No reason to have a bright clean grate IMO. Things won't stick as bad either.Snellville, GA

If you are going to fret about them then I suggest the oven cleaner Easy Off. It will do the job, but be a p.i.t.a. After a while you will probably mellow as cleaning the stackers is a hassle! OTOH to clean single grates I use a inverted metal garbage can lid. It's shallow and makes overnight soaking a breeze. Want to know another trick for single grates? Buy a couple extras and that way you can space out your self-imposed cleaning chore.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

No to the Easy Off. I don't need them shiny, just clean. Probably crank up the gasser and throw the grates in.

Fire does the grate clean for me-residual heat for the upper level. And it there are some healthy chunks I knock them off with a putty knife. No wire bristles here.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. I like clean grates too. I recently ran mine through the pots and pans cycle of the dishwasher, followed by the heated dry cycle. It came out pretty good, with the gooey mess gone and the stuff that was baked on then flaked off pretty easy too.GrillSgt said:I'm a bit of a nut about keeping my grills clean, real clean. No, married 34 years and by now she just shrugs it off when I put stuff other than dishes in the dishwasher. She did frown a bit about the motorcycle parts.

"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

Ron, You think that's an indicator of being single ... A grill in my living room has become a permanent fixture it seems. Right now a PK grill I just assembled. Before that eggs, primo, webers, UDS etc. I think my kid would ask what's wrong if there wasn't a grill in the house.
To the op - putty scraper and tinfoil ball when needed. And STOP grilling those gophers!

I lick them when they are hot. Really works great for the grate, but not great for me. #sadgratelicker

I use a ball of used foil to scrape the bigger stuff off after the fire has heated them up. I found out that leaving them in during an accidental clean burn (opened up for cooking steaks) cleaned off most of the stuff on the grates. It got up around 900 degrees before I noticed and shut it down.Aledo, Texas

I've put them in the gasser and cranked her up.

Worked like a charm.
