I currently own a med egg. Looking to purchase a large egg, but I've also been looking at kj and grills kongs. Anyone try a kong?  A mini max also looks really nice. Decisions decisions.
Get a Blaze kamado. Over on another forum there a re a few people that have gotten them and they seem pretty impressive - no worries about rust, cracks, gaskets.
how about melting during 1200 degree plus pizza cooks or did they limit upper temps with the smaller lower venting =)
This is pretty interesting and discusses the whole melty thing:

just cause he hit the surface with a tiny hot flame doesnt mean it wont melt with an all out clean burn in there. aluminum spreads heat quickly, we weld this stuff, you need huge torches like a huge full blown lump fire. still betting they dont burn as hot as an egg with that little lower vent, put a blower on it and let it rip.  if you got a 1200 degree dome temp in there im betting you would not want to go near that thing, its gonna get hot =)
How long do you think you could place the palm of your hand against the dome of your Egg @1200°F? Just curious. :)

Really?????  You are comparing placing your hand near an Egg with placing your hand near an aluminum grill????

Hmmmm, gee, I don't know which one will be hotter, please tell me more!!!

    WOW

I would surmise you would pull your hand away pretty damn fast if the surface temperature were anywhere above 200F.   WOW

Oh c'mon man...the point was simple - either of those two running a 1200°F fire would be too hot to touch.

I'm pretty sure that touching either one is gonna leave a mark. A painful mark.

I haven't seen this video posted on the forum. Maybe I missed it.

I suspect this video will receive the same reaction as the title to this thread. One camp will agree. The other will disagree.

I have added a lot of accessories to my eggs,, several of them home made, and most of them not made by BGE.  All of them improve my flexibility to cook various things on my egg.  If I ran the zoo at BGE, we would be coming up with this stuff right and left.  They seem to be pretty conservative, could be much more aggressive for the aftermarket

Until the time comes when a proud KJ owner can explain what they have to some clueless guy without one of them saying "it's like a big green egg" I'd say BGE is fine.
    Probably true dat.

It is interesting tho how many trademarked products that developed/created a market have now just become generic words:

"Make a xerox of that", "hand me a crescent wrench", "use the q-tips to clean little nooks and crannies", "put a bandaid on the cut", etc.

and none of the original products makers are still leaders in their market.

Does Xerox even still make photocopiers?

I guess BGE has given up on their drone/MiniMax delivery service and is going with fixed wing aircraft now?
