    More preaching from "scientists"
Gotta cut them dum "scientists" a break.  I mean, they invented electricity and the very computers we're using so you can conveniently and efficiently express, on a 'puter network for all to see, how willfully ignorant you are.  Viva la science!  (emoticons added so no feelings are hurt)  ;)=):)
Geniuses and inventors did all that.

"Scientists" these days just put poorly taken data into excel and manipulate it till it gives the answers their funding source requests.

The physicists and astronomers are the only real scientists these days.
Wrong.  Technology is built on the backs of scientific giants, research and knowledge riding on the backs of other scientific giants and so forth.

Problem is people throw the term "scientist" around with no thought.

The climate "scientists" are not.  They are analysts.  The people worrying Trump will ruin the world are not "scientist", they are mostly just rabble rousers who are going to get washed away by the changing tide.

I have great respect for scientists, not analysts.

They will let their bias creep in and in some cases do what they need to do to keep food on their plate.

Not sharing data, not sharing processes, and publishing results other labs cannot repeat does not strike me interested in the truth.

I would love to do that!

I worked at my University in the labs for all 4 years.  Lots of good work.  Unfortunately, a lot of the science driving policy descisions at the highest levels (on both sides) is frought with issues and conflicts.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

  • Do folks here genuinely believe that scientists get rich off of government funding?  Enough that they'd falsify data?
They will let their bias creep in and in some cases do what they need to do to keep food on their plate.

Not sharing data, not sharing processes, and publishing results other labs cannot repeat does not strike me interested in the truth.

To "keep food on their plate" ?  I know some faculty who do not do research.  I hate to break it to you, but they're not starving.  The institution provides nine months of salary at most R1 institutions, and for most people, that is more than enough.

As to your second sentence, I don't know of a single lab that operates that way.  When another group can reproduce your results, that increases the impact of your work.  The incentives for scientists are exactly the opposite of what you seem to think they are.

Scientists are largely driven by... ego.  They want to be the first ones to have made a breakthrough in understanding or technology.  And they want to publish papers in the best journals so that their work is highly cited and their h-index (basically a third leg) grows and grows.
