OMG!!!nolaegghead said:So...what I want to know...is...who here has been conned? Seems like we have a pretty gullible crowd. When someone calls you up from Microsoft telling you your computer has been compromised, or you get an email that asks you to forward this true heartbreaking story and say a prayer, you'll have great luck the next day...do you believe it?
Wife gets a call from MS often and they are usually greeted by my lovely wife laughing in hysterics or me telling them to go fly a kite! or the quintessential...really!? seriously?! yeah! go **** yourself ya dillhole! or something like that. These Aholes prey on the elderly. Disgusts me. They're a blight on society!

Children, carry on.
Never thought Flannery O'Connor would end up being so prescient.

There's an important and relevant difference between policies/practices/funding for efforts such as education, clean environment, and medical research that provides benefits to all people and the use of practices that are doled out ad hoc to benefit a few.pgprescott said:
Let's stop the shenanigans then. No more fed funds for education. No more for clean energy. No more for medical research no more for energy exploration no more for agriculture. Yada yada yada. Let's have the govt stick to strictly their core duties at all levels. No more social engineering etc. While I can understand the bad taste in the mouth, the deal is a no brainer and it's a net win.HeavyG said:
I wouldn't have made that deal. I'm opposed to those sort of shenanigans/blackmail as a matter of public policy.pgprescott said:If @HeavyG and @nolaegghead want to argue that they wouldn't make the same deal, go ahead. It's moronic. Choice A: no jobs. Choice B: 1100 jobs. Idiots!
Also, it isn't 1100 jobs at Carrier being saved it's less than 800. And I'm betting that those jobs too will be gone before the end of Trumps only term.
Also, also, a company just down the road from Carrier is shutting down its plant and moving 300 jobs to Mexico. Where's their bribe money?
The former is good public policy. The latter is essentially crony capitalism.

Solindra? Electric cars? Isn't air conditioning good for society? Nope, me thinks we should do away with it all like you suggested. Thanks.HeavyG said:

Windmills. GM? Maybe we can outright steal the money from private investors and give it to the unions like the GM case?

I must say, from the perspective of a progressive yet misanthropic altruistic anarchist, (paradoxical, I know) it's refreshing to see anti-intellectualism thrive in what I'm not believing is the modern age of enlightenment.
In the words of some anonymous person, or maybe it was Aldous Huxley: "That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons that history has to teach".
These are hollow words for me to say for some. I accept that. Because ideology trumps all reason in some. I'm not idealistic, but practical. Yet we have to live among all people. (or kill them) Accept it or not. But please try to think things through. Posting Hillary pictures looking ugly is the antithesis of the point you're making. Beauty before reason, just like fox news babes validates the lower brain, right? (damn, I sound like Ron or something).
