The Buffalo has spoken...

The Buffalo Justice thread is on life support and the priest has been called for last rites.   So I wanted to capture The Buffalo's words on what roused him up.  He said,
The_Buffalo  Posts: 252
"ok, so everyone wants to know what wakes the Buffalo from a deep sleep .... well, take a good look at this thread.  one minute some light-hearted fun with my image on the attorney generals building, next thing I know we're veering off into post-election razing, without a single mention of a reverse-sear or something of redeeming value. the Buffalo will roll over to nap for a spell, however he is forever vigilant "

So, if we stick to cooking and avoid politics, we're good to go.  And since the Buffalo pays for this forum, he gets to make the rules.

Nope.  Can't blame her at all.  The forum has taken a turn from good natured ribbing to straight up a**holery a lot of the time.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Maybe the best ones that get sunk are threads promoting free events where members are promoting BGE products for nothing.

This is going to be hard to avoid on the weekends, especially when the booze is flowing. Some might consider these threads offensive but I think it gives the forum a sense of community, more like a family. Just think about the family gatherings that start off civil and end up with everyone screaming at each other. I like it

I agree with this to an extent. OTOH the threads that get killed are some of the most entertaining. Doesn't bother me either way.

And then the next day, once the hangovers wear off, everyone goes back to being one big happy family ready and willing to cheerfully help whomever, whenever they can.

FWIW, on many forums, threads that disintegrate into the kind of stuff that get Buffaloed are moved to the Off Topic area where such threads are tolerated.

Perhaps we can all agree to use the Off Topic area for discussions unrelated to egging and the Buffalo can simply move any such threads to the Off Topic area.

That way, those who are interested in those threads can continue to enjoy them and the main Egghead Forum will maintain its integrity for threads related to egging.

Doesn't any thread created though end up on the page with all threads non filtered?

Its obvious there is a great population that enjoys the off topic, bantering, arguing threads. They get the most views and responses by far.

If everyone one agrees with everyone, then forums would be  BORING.

Rules Is rules though. We never like them when they fall against us.

Just bought an Egg?  Here is what you get to look forward to now:

We've had threads posted in OT that were not political at all get nuked.  The Buffalo moves in mysterious ways.

Naahh...many a thread clearly marked "OT" or "Off Topic" AND created in the Off Topic section has been deleted and not just sunk.

Over on the BBQ-Brethren forum they have a couple of sections where folks can go and freely share their keen political insights. However, those sections are "roped off" from most users and one has to explicitly ask permission to gain read/write access to those sections.

BGE could do something similar here but I can understand why they probably don't feel the need to bother to do so just to address occasional problems with a few dozen of "the usual suspects".

Our hosts have provided an "OT" area, which most of us appreciate (especially when you attend a GTG, and folks get to meet each other in person; you naturally want to know more about everyone, not just their Egging).
Politics is not forbidden, in writing, anywhere that I can find, yet most political threads are disabled on Monday morning.  However, our hosts have still not said to us, "No Politics!", which if they did I think most of us would toe to.
We've reached a bit of a detente, we get some things off our chest come Friday night, and those things are removed Monday morning.  I'm okay with that, hope our hosts are.

Besides, all you Drumpf supporters will be glad your support is erased a couple years from now when our schools are essentially worthless, the nat'l debt is $26T, goods are too expensive for anyone to afford because of the tariffs, China has all our trading partners in the Pacific, and Putin has every EE country, from Poland down to and including Greece, under his control

Methinks The Buffalo is not troubled by polite civil discussion but I do see where sometimes some comments get a bit mean and personal and/or somebody posts pix that not too many years ago would have been considered pornographic (and some folks still consider pornographic) and I certainly understand why The Buffalo feels compelled to act.
