Never understood the buffalo's guidelines. I can understand sinking political threads when they get out of hand, but
there have been quite a few sinkings in the last few months of posts that were not belligerent in any way shape or form....enlighten us Grand Buffalo

  • Get a grip people.  Perhaps Blake should not have posted a link to a contest run by BGE's competition?  It's no mystery to me why the Buffalo struck swiftly and harshly.  The reason other threads got torpedoed are not clear, but the reason this one did is very clear.

I didn't know Big Green Egg sold stainless tables

@Fred19Flintstone Competing?  It's a giveaway.  I nor did anybody else compare the tables sold by OutdoorKitchenEquipment to anybody else's product.  I see threads outright bashing BGE products and they survive.  Don't forget  BGE sells charcoal, komado cookers, accessories, spices/rubs, cook books, etc  and they are all good products.  But, variety is nice isn't it.  Obviously I prefer SS and being around commercial kitchens I'm familiar with quality built commercial grade hot side tables as well as cold side tables.  I figured I'd share the knowledge of this giveaway with other eggheads so they had that opportunity to enter.  I assure everybody there was no hidden agenda.

  • I never for one moment suspected that you misrepresented yourself.  My point is BGE has a product (Custom Cooking Island) with an SS top that could be seen as a direct competitor to the product in the contest you linked to.  In this case, I think the Buffalo was protecting it's turf.

I hope you don't leave here or harbor ill feelings toward me.  If we ever find each other at the same place, I'll pick up the bar tab.

@Fred19Flintstone Firstly thanks for your kind words you posted earlier. It wasn't a direct poke at you buddy.  I'm not going anywhere.  No ill toward anybody...not even the buffalo.  No sense in dwelling...life's to short.  Buffalo need not protect his turf.   the bottom line is if somebody wants to buy a product whether it be theirs or somebody else's they'll buy it. We all know this forum entices us all to spend money anyway...regardless of where we spend it we do it for cooking

Does BGE even make a stainless steel table?  I've got my eye out for one.
    Thanks for the link @bgebrent

Fewer Kentucky fans around here at this time of year wouldn't be a bad thing.

Are table builds threads and table plan threads deleted?

BGE tables are not great, far too expensive, and not customized.  There really is no comparison to the product of discussion OR a homemade table vs the BGE one to me.

Have you ever been in a dealers and see different cookers on the floor?
  • @stompbox & @Tspud1 :  It does not matter about what the dealer stocks or table builds or plans to build a table.  This has to do with BGE protecting its market share from its competitor on its own forum.  The table in the contest is a high-end SS top table.  BGE sells a high-end SS top table.  So the table in the contest is a direct competitor to BGE in that market.  The contest is designed by BGE's competitor to advertise that table and it's whole line of products.  Why would you think BGE should ever allow that free advertisement of its competitor on a BGE owned forum?  When you look at the situation from a business standpoint, the Buffalo's action makes perfect sense.

    Here endeth the lesson.

So no more threads on non BGE charcoal, contollers, rubs or any other other accessories such as CGS?

I am not arguing with you, I get it.  But these limitations would make this a really lame place if all we had to talk about is the BGE catalog and recipes.

Those 3rd party items accentuate the awesomeness of the BGE and make it better.
  • You have a point on the small ticket items.  I guess there may be enough market share to go around.  A high end SS table is a specialty market that I'm sure is pretty tight.  I don't know how many of those high-end SS tables BGE sells, but I'm sure it's only a few per month or year.  Cutting into that market share sounds like a different kettle of fish than lump & rub.  Controllers, while a bit pricey, are bought by a lot of guys.  Not a lot of guys buy those SS tables.

If BGE is smart, and they are, they have MEMBERS in this forum amongst us that probably post and react like any of us, all in a manner of doing research about what we are all talking about, shopping for, like and dislike, etc. I frequent car buying forums all the time so I can stay in tune with the fanatic and what their hot points are and how their brains work. I recognize the buyer when they come in based on their questions, and am able to adjust our approach to that customer so he or she has the experience they desire and it creates a more enjoyable one for them as well. This is one of the main reasons BGE gives us this forum would be my bet.

The contest's purpose is to gather emails for marketing. Yes, all who have entered will now get marketing emails until you unsubscribe should you desire. I unsubscribe to save money personally....you all are all the marketing I need. Anyways, that email capture is a big deal. I would not want my competing store to have access to all of my customers emails. So it gets tricky. The intent of the contest posting was not malicious, however, BGE has the right to protect. This is the difference that creates the tension between OP of a nuked thread and the Buffalo. If the OP had malicious intent, then all would be fine and dandy from the get go, which it seems to have gone back to now.

an email capturing contest like described above is also very different than a link to the ceramic grill store to check out a new rig system. That is also what creates a difference to some threads getting nuked and others surviving like the Black Friday Thread.

A better fix is going back back to locking a thread and explains why it has been locked. Allows BGE to protect, and its members to have a better understanding of why.
Just bought an Egg?  Here is what you get to look forward to now:

Plate Setter, FlameBoss 200, Spider, PSWOO-CI, Additional Rig Shelf for dome cooking, Thermapen, iGrill2, Cast Iron, Blackstone, Cooking Accessories for the Blackstone, Cover for the Egg and the Blackstone, shopping for Rub like a fine wine or IPA, and a new fascination with lump and what brand is the best-all to be debated every Friday Night.  Next desires-Joetisceriie, Adjustable Rig, Grillmates, table and more eggs

One table thread is nuked, but we continually have Mini Max hate threads on a regular basis without getting nuked?

There was a post in the other table thread by the Buffalo indicating the table was not the reason the thread was deleted - it was all of the "off-off topic" stuff.

You assume too much. ask anyone here that entered last year if they got a email about tables in the last 360 days. it's the season to give back to the community.
