Maybe I got a bad bottle....but c'mon guys, this stuff is terrible.  It never wants to combine, no matter how much you mix?  Like the ingredients are made to NOT be together, lol.

There are a few more clumps, same size, buried.  Wonder if it's the garlic?

Can't believe I wasted my hard earned for this crap.

  • I'm sure Matt will take care of you. It's not supposed to be that way. I have a bottle and it's not like that at all and I've had it a year (i make my own rub but wanted to try his to see if I was missing anything).

I do know Matt though and he's a real standup guy. I know he wouldn't want this out there with his name on it.

Good stuff. It looks like you got a bad batch. That's too bad.

All I get is pepper and garlic.  The pepper really takes over from the start.

  • One reason I tend to make my own rubs as needed.

There are some good ones out there and I have bought several. But I enjoy making my own.

  • I've purchased a few bottles locally with no issues.

Could be that the seal was compromised from the start, letting moisture in.

I usually go that route, but like to have some store bought on hand, in a pinch.

    I'm not a believer.

I could not tell the seal was compromised when opening.  But, it had to have been.  Or, they let a sh!tty batch out.

I'm pretty sure every bottle of rub I've ever bought has been that way.  Meat church, dizzy, etc.
I always shake them up, hit them on the counter a few times before using. Never really thought much about it.

Opinions are like a$$holes. Most people have at least one.

That is a tad brutal. I've been quick to condemn some vendors in the past, and found that most in the BBQ world will do the right thing if folks are willing  to give them a chance. Rockwood, Smokeware, Flame Boss are some of those guys.

We have a voice on the interwebz, and like many things, it can be used wisely.

    Except for blow and hookers...

  • Just curious, why not let Matt make it right for you? Wouldn't that make you feel better than posting (bashing) on the internet to a crowd of people who have never had that issue?

I'm good.  I don't expect a handout, and really don't want one, at this point.  It was my Fock up, for buying it in the first place.  I simply, won't buy, their product again.  There are others that put out great ones...DP, Oakridge, Plowboys.  If I got sh!t from them, which I haven't after many, I'd move along too.

Man, no company can put out 100% perfect. What makes a company good is how well they handle things when something like this happens. Most would even appreciate the feedback of problems. Giving MC a chance to make things right is a far cry from you expecting a handout. This is the first bad review I have seen on their rubs. My 6 or 7 bottles have been great. Their bottle size for the price also seems very good. Oakridge, by the way, has been one of my favs.

    Thank you,

@focker - much respect for you and your cooking talents but the trash can shot is a lil over the top until the company has a chance to fix the situation.  Note: I've never used said rubs.

  • @MeatChurch sorry I can't let it go without at least giving the guy a shot. I know you won't (admittedly) like it but if nothing else you can get more satisfaction of throwing it in the trash (and probably reposting). Or even better yet send it off in the June exchange.

I've bought some rubs through the years, some much cheaper, like a $2 Trader Joe's BBQ rub, never one problem.

Maybe I need to ship this to someone, so they can use it, for kitty litter.

That's probably my favorite beef rub. Really peppery for sure. That said I have seen huge differences from bottle when looking at them on the shelf. They have a crap load of them at Roswell hardware and one day they had a batch that was clearly ground much finer than the others next to it and they were all labeled the same. The fine ground looked like it was half an inch less full due to being packed tighter so it was really visible. Seems like they may need to be more consistent. Overall like their rubs though.

True. But I'm yet to throw anyone in the trash without giving them a chance.

First time seeing anything negative about meat church. That sucks man. I'm probably about at the point with my cooking to start mixing home made rubs.
