I held onto my old Weber Performer (had for 20 years) for about 6 months after my purchase of said egg. It sat ideal the entire time.......I have never looked back.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax
Well, I married me a wife, she's been trouble all my life,

1) Don't get rid of the Weber. There will be times when you want more real estate. Or two temps - for searing and slow smoking. Or meat on one and veggies on the other.
2) Most here would recommend some accessories from Ceremic Grill Store instead of a platesetter.
3) Don't buy a cover. I have one. I haven't used it for a couple of years. Spring hailstorms that totaled 2 of our cars didn't affect my uncovered BGE.
4) Get a Thermapen.
Just my $0.02.

Keeping the cost down...
-Gloves
-Ash Tool
-Something to light the lump (starter cubes, electric, paper towel / oil)
That will get you going for a while - you can add on later.Birmingham, Ala. -
Is that a metal cap on the lid? My only suggestion is to get an ash tool (should come with it at that price) from the dealer and a High-Que grate by mail. I would skip the cover. I bought one and never use it, but it will protect the table.
The next accessory I would get is a Maverick. I find it indispensable for low and slow. Finally, a Thermopen. You can limp along with a lesser thermometer until you spring for this one.*******Owner of a large and a beloved mini in Philadelphia -

With the table you are already ahead of me in the accessory dept, that's my next investment! Per my budget I decided to hold off on a lot of accessories and just cook on it for a while then decide what I need/want. The stuff I use the most:
-meat thermometer
-electric grill starter ($12 from Home Depot)
-large spoon/ash tool for ashes
-drip pan
-and lately a pizza stone!
My list of wants is constantly growing

I agree on keeping the weber but i already have a CharBroil gasser an d she doesn't want 3 grills under the porch or by the pool. i may be fighting a loosing battle but I'm going to fight.
I figure I need to add some leather gloves and the ash tool. I already have a set of rubber grill gloves and fire starters. I also have an instant read thermometer along with 2 Maverick remote thermometers and an infraRed thermometer. i just purchased some CI to use and I already have tongs and spatulas etc.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

Ash tool, ash pan are musts though and I also recommend grate lifter and a plate setter lifter as well. Sometimes you have to move them hot.Bill Denver, CO

You said the ps is included. I would ask how much they would take off of the price if you don't take it, and see about going with the woo setup from the ceramic grill store. If your egg will be in the rain a cover would be a good idea. The bands will rust.

+1 on the lifters if you can, moving hot grates etc... has been interesting, seems like I constantly have singed hairs.

Not really needed, but a great tool for lighting the egg.

Lowe's also has this. -
Some good suggestions. Though I may buy some of the accessories from Amazon instead of my dealer.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

Get a piece of skate or tile for the table if it's the one in the pic. You'll need somewhere to land hot grates and such without ruining the top.Bill Denver, CO

1- Get rid of the wife ( it's cheaper to rent)
2- Do whatever you like from her on........Just kidding, ( not really) Keep the weber, get a thermopen
Visalia, Ca @lkapigian -
From the pic, if you went with a nest you wouldn't need the table. And to get the full versatility of the BGE you need a way to run indirect. As mentioned above, if you can eliminate the plate setter you can rig an indirect set-up with a couple of fire bricks and another grate. Then it's raised direct-many options for that.
As noted, go simple out of the gate then sort out what's important and adjust from there.

harbor freight has a heat gun for 15 bucks. runs at 550 and 1100 degrees. 30 seconds and the grill is lit. also bought $4 welders gloves there. Bought a 1cast iron pizza pan which also double as a a nice cooking surface for small things (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016ILHNS6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I haven't used the weber since last year when I got the electric smoker for Christmas. So. I'll probably sell or give it away. Its a small sacrifice for getting an Egg.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

Congratulations on the long marriage- I really mean that!. I finally gave my Weber away, I mainly used it to put my chimney starter inVisalia, Ca @lkapigian -
Have you thought about a nest over a table? I know most want to build tables but I also do know eggers that have gone nest to table and than back to nest. (Tables can take up a lot of room and require maintenance) You can typically find a used nest on Craigslist for $50. Someone right now locally is selling his nest and mates for $50. Than you would just be buying the egg itself for 9 bills or under. Just a thought"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

If I had it to do over again I'd pass on the plate setter and get a woo and 2 half circle ceramic stones

I thought about just getting a nest but I want to have more prep room than the nest and folding tables would provide. We also have three dogs that love to chase each other around the pool and they aren't to careful about what they collide with. I figure a table would just protect the Egg better.
Plus I only get one shot at this thin. Deciding on adding a table at a later date won't fly with my wife. And I don't have the skills to build one.
Is a one shot all or nothing type thing and the Egg is the basis for my back yard remake plans.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

I didn't read through all the comments, but why not build your own table? I apologize if this is been addressed already. The egg is roughly 750-850 depending where you can buy it.

I had mine for 6 months with only Platesetter and ash tool.
Then started window shopping.
This week I bought some parts from CGS, now I will wait another 6-18 months to decide what next.XLBGE, LBGE, Charbroil Gas Grill, Weber Q200, Old Weber Kettle, Rectec RT-B380, Yeti 65, Yeti Hopper 20, RTIC 20, RTIC 20 Soft Side - Too many drinkware vessels to mention.

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting. The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president. -
I like your approach. Get the basics and see how I use the Egg then decide what to add next.xfire_ATX said:I had mine for 6 months with only Platesetter and ash tool.

I think I seen you were thinking of getting a cover? I do not have a wooden table top mine is SS. I have never used a cover and live in the south. It is hot and humid.

I would ask for a predetermined amount you are allowed to spend on additional accessories and then use it once you figure out what you want. I bought many accessories, and wish I would have waited on some to do other things with the money, when in turn, I have ended up with some duplicates. All of us use things differently.
If I could do it over.......
FB200 if you are into set it and forget it style cooking
Thermapen
Smoke (was not available when I bought Egg) over iGrill2. You really only need one of these items if you are going to cook more than one type of meat at a time that needs constant temp monitoring. I would choose the Smoke solely based on the quality of the Thermapen, but am happy with the igrill2.
Welding Gloves
Woo or Adjustable Rig---this choice will make the difference in getting a plate setter or using a pizza stone in my opinion, but you will need one or the other for indirect and rasied cooking styles. I think the Adjustble Rig is what I would do today instead of the woo, but it is a lot more money.........
Just bought an Egg? Here is what you get to look forward to now:
Plate Setter, FlameBoss 200, Spider, PSWOO-CI, Additional Rig Shelf for dome cooking, Thermapen, iGrill2, Cast Iron, Blackstone, Cooking Accessories for the Blackstone, Cover for the Egg and the Blackstone, shopping for Rub like a fine wine or IPA, and a new fascination with lump and what brand is the best-all to be debated every Friday Night. Next desires-Joetisceriie, Adjustable Rig, Grillmates, table and more eggs
