My first batch is now in process:

But in the mean time I just can't get enough of these McClure's deli-style pickles. I LOVE them - naw, make that CRAVE them! I bet you will too - try them if you get the chance and I bet you too will get hooked!

These have become my favorite, but they are a bit pricey.

The bloody mix is pretty good as well.
  • This is not directed at you Ron as I saw someone else post this a few days ago. I try to keep an open mind with food but what the hell is the fascination with koolaid and pickles? I think I would rather bob my face in the fryer for @sgh 's pig anus calimari than eat a koolaid soaked pickle.

I can honestly vouch for the imitation calamari, but that Kool aid pickle sounds bad. It may just be one of those mind over matter things though.

Can you imagine how much "calimari" Ron could buy with his money?

Well...let's see...don't you ever take somebody else's word to try something that sounds weird? or just the reverse even?  And never try food items?

I know there are foods that I now love that as a child my older sibling "poisoned" my mind of ever I mean EVER even trying! One thing that comes to mind is spinach, another - most sauced meats - even some fish as they are bottom feeders blah blah blah.

    As for these koolickles...why not?

Oh oh and to this day I love snails!!! And trust me I will be having two great servings this weekend!

Brother Tex, I didn't want to be the one who said it ;)

Ron have you tried Nathan's horseradish pickels?  Those my friend are addicting.

Now those sound good. This kool aid thing sounds gross.

No, where do you buy them? And here is a challenge back at you...try the McClure's slices which I like even better than the spears. Tit for tat...or whatever the saying is!

I have only had the spears, so I will have to grab the chips next time. In Peoria, the only place I know for sure is Alwan and Sons.

    Thanks!

BTW does Rocke's Meating Haus even still exist there in Morton - retail wise?

Not sure how they stay open. Mostly frozen meats. I'm a big fan of the chicken wings at Alwans. They have good wood chuncks too.

Thanks...at one time years ago Rocke's there was a powerhouse meat packer with a great retail outlet operation and reputation.

Yeah but I know a turd when I see one. I would play tongue jinga with a 4 foot stack of imitation calamari before eating one koolickle.

Touché - why you have such an aversion to a dill pickle tainted with a cherry twist of a $.25 package of Kool Aid and a sweetened twang from 1 cup of sugar over a slice or even stack of hog rectum circles is beyond me...but to each his own!

Because Kool-Aid is terrible by itself.  It has to be terrible with pickles.

@The Cen-Tex Smoker You have no idea what you are missing.  LOL, I was going to say strange but between this and calamari ass, I choose Koolickle

I might have gotten a little carried away on the calamari. A 4 foot stack is a lot of imitation calamari. I might go with a single Koolicle at that point. I don't understand it but I have made my peace with it. Just takes some of us longer to get there than others, I guess.

@The Cen-Tex Smoker It took me at least  2-3 times at the restaurant before allowing my mind to accept that it was "good".  We don't have them too often but my nephews like it.  It is a strange thing...
