Gas bbq (shocker)

How's it going everyone in eggland?
Have a question and want to get your guys feed back.
My wife wants to get a gas BBQ for her to use for quick weeknight meals.
We both love the egg but with 3 little ones under 5 she doesn't have the time to start and use the egg with me away for work till 7 most nights.
What do you all think is a good one to go with?
It needs to be 4 burners or so. We're not interested in rotisseries and such because of the egg. But there is 2 schools of thought I find for bbqs. Either a cheap lower end unit that you use for a number of years then toss or a higher level one that should last longer or be able to get parts for. I've always found that by the time you need to look at burners and such for replacement your at half the cost of a new BBQ again.
So what are your thoughts? A $400, $700 or a $1200 one? Do the higher priced units last longer? Cook better?

Get her a Weber Q#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

I'm standing in the Borg right now. Looked at the Weber q. If I brought that home Id not get laid for a month.Needs to be bigger. And the one here is electric.
-
Consumer reports likes the Kenmore 16156. About $600. It's in the large gasser category.
Bring that home and you'll be sure to get laid.

If it was up to me I'd just buy a medium. It would get to temp faster than our XL. But as we all know if momma ain't happy ain't nobody happy. And this is what she asked for for her birthday. A new BBQ.

Have you looked at DCS BBQS? I would probably consider something higher end if you are not planing on buying a new one in 3 years again.
Most at places advertise that they are stainless steel but only the inside is SS and the red aluminum, when you get into the pricier ones you are getting full SS which won't rust as the other "affordable" ones.
I would look at DCS, Webber or NapoleonsXLBGE, MMBGE, CyberQ -
Given that you have SWMBO that is engaged in Q means you are light-years ahead of most. With that, I would invest in whatever she wants.
I have no recent gas Q rig experience, but I did own a Weber 3 burner (length-wise) gas grill that was a true hacker (gifted to a friend and still going strong). I will always support the Weber line as they stand behind their products.
I don't know how the current equivalent of my prior Weber grill fits but it definitely held up well, great product support. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. I second the Weber Q. With little one myself, it's quick and easy. I doubt you need anything bigger with the kids being young. And when you are ready, it serves for a great tailgate grill for concerts and games too!

In my pre-egg period, I got a lot of use out of a Weber Performer.
A dome-type grill that has a small propane burner to ignite the briquettes/charcoal.
That would save your assistant cook a lot of time.John in the Willamette Valley of Oregon -
Get her the Weber Genesis in a color she will like. Forget black or stainless. Get something she will like, make her happy and be happy she wants to grill too.

Whenever a man is forced to sell a motorcycle, remodel a kitchen, or buy a gasser, the question must be asked...
How serious is it between you and your wife?
FYI, I load the medium up on Sunday with a full load and I'm good to go all week. Heat up time is just as quick as a gasser.

Just get a Weber gasser. At least you know you can get parts.
-
Right. And it is of decent quality and she might even think it is pretty. Make it something she can be proud of. You don't actually have to use it much and it will still serve the purpose of making her happy.DoubleEgger said:Just get a Weber gasser. At least you know you can get parts. -
Yep, it is so much quicker than an egg, great for weeknights. Crank all 4 burners on a Weber Genesis and you're 650+ in less than 5 minutes.DoubleEgger said:Just get a Weber gasser. At least you know you can get parts.LBGE

+1 for the Weber gasser, whichever one she wants. I've had the Weber Summit for years with no issues and absolutely love it.Vacaville, CA

I don't plan on using it that much or at all. If I'm home I'll egg. That won't change. She just wants it to grill with. Cause as we all know food cooked with a flame seems to always taste better than broiled or pan fried.

Weber Q2000 is a better grill than people give credit. That with the stand will be awesome.XLBGE, LBGE, Charbroil Gas Grill, Weber Q200, Old Weber Kettle, Rectec RT-B380, Yeti 65, Yeti Hopper 20, RTIC 20, RTIC 20 Soft Side - Too many drinkware vessels to mention.

Weber gasser. Great company that stands behind their product.
I had a genesis silver that gave me 10 years of solid performance. Replaced the firebox, burners, and flavorizers after 8 years. All free and shipped to me.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

I'd just use the oven, stop cleaning it and it will cook like a gasserVisalia, Ca @lkapigian

If you do make the choice to spend 12-$1500, look at the Napolean line compared to the Weber. I think my next purchase will be a full dressed Napolean. Rotisserie/Charcoal tray/Smoker box. +1 on weber gasser. Simple design, easy to work on, reliable, easy to start. I never thought they did real well with searing, but...if you have an egg and/or a side burner w/CI pan, that doesn't matter.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

Totally agree. I got one gifted to me from my in-laws when my father-in-law passed several yrs ago. Mother-in-law did not want anymore. I use it all the time in the garage when raining, snowing, etc. Nearly 10 yrs old & works as good as new.xfire_ATX said:Weber Q2000 is a better grill than people give credit. The local dedicated gas grill store in my area sells Modern Home Products (MHP)
The dealer tells me the burners carry a life time warranty against burn out.
If that's the case MHP is pretty strong.
The burners failing is the normal reason some one has to get a new gas grill in my experience. -
I have one as well and it does a darn good job. Just took it out to the lake today and fed 10 people and it was grilling on one small little bottle of propane for over four hours. Still have about 1/3 of it leftxfire_ATX said:Weber Q2000 is a better grill than people give credit. That with the stand will be awesome.XLBGE, MMBGE, CyberQ -
I have had Weber's before. My favorite gasser was a CharBroil, with the U shaped burner. I effen abused that bad boy every way you could dream of, non stop for three years. Ended up giving it to my nephew, who then gave it to his son. Bronze burners. Awesome cooker."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

My Broil King is 12 years old - granted here on the west coast, it has never seen snow. Unlike many charcoal grillers, I would never be without a gasser - it is simply too valuable. I like the heat from a Broil King, Consumer's hated it as when 6 rib eyes were left on the grill unattended it basically had enough heat to start a huge fire - that to me is not a problem.
The other Great grill is a Napoleon. If and when my BQ ever dies, I will prolly go with a Napy. I think Costco has a Napy that is a good buy.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad! -
I have a Weber Genesis silver. 10 years old and as said above replaced the burners and flavorizer bars at 8 years free of charge thanks to Webers great customer service and warranty. Still looks like new. I use it 5 times per week on average.Narcoossee, FL
