All I know is that it's a snake with a triangular head. That usually means poisonous, no?

Their pattern darkens as they get older (to the point of sometimes looking almost completely black but it varies). But it is without question a cottonmouth.NonaScott said:

My parents lived on a canal and occasionally one would come up onto the dock. Rather than shoot a hole in the dock, my father would lay down in the grass and fire his shotgun in a way that would blast the snake into the canal with the force. There was relatively little damage to the dock - a few skid marks and embedded pellets.
Note: This only works if you have uninhabited woods across the canal.XXL BGE, Karebecue, Klose BYC, Chargiller Akorn Kamado, Weber Smokey Mountain, Grand Turbo gasser, Weber Smoky Joe, and the wheelbarrow that my grandfather used to cook steaks from his cattle

The inside of this snakes mouth was so white. He was very aggressive not afraid of anything. He slithered back into the swamp where he came from. Looked like a cottonmouth to me.

I could not eat a snake. I know people that do, but I just couldn't do it. They freak me out. I don't kill rat snakes or king snakes, but we have a lot of copperheads that end up in our yard and pool.
A few rattlesnakes as well. I have no mercy on them.

@johnkitchensI agree would not be my favorite.

I don't mess with snakes. I kill them. ESPECIALLY snakes with a triangle shaped head. I would have blown him/her into next week.

Scottie would probably fry him up and make a gravy. In the style of dixie, of course.

sounds like one to me too. They are aggressive as hell around here. I guess I've never seen a young one like that- only the big super dark ones.LRW said:The inside of this snakes mouth was so white. Yes. I have but, it's not in the regular rotation. They're ok but, nothing to write home about. Have had fried, grilled, baked and braised. Fried and grilled seemed to be best. Plenty of them here in our neck of the woods. A long length of 3/4"-1" PCV and a quick whack on the head & it's lights out. No gun necessary unless you feel froggy and want snake pieces.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

Just curious - Where is the meat on a snake? Is it the tail? Most people probably don't know this but a snake has a hidden anus that extends outward, but closes making it cylindrical. So I assume what is edible is beyond that - right?NPHuskerFL said:Yes. I have but, it's not in the regular rotation. They're ok but, nothing to write home about.
