Different size eggs

i had my large egg for 11 days.  Love it. First one I've ever had. I'm trying to understand why you would need more than one. I could see if kept at two different place.  Just wondering. Y'all help me with this?

Yes. I have a large and a mini. And it's an awesome Combo, the best I can think of next to a mini max and large. Why?

because when I'm cooking just steaks, or something for myself small, I ise the mini. Because it gets up to temp super quick, requires about 1/10 as much lump, and I can get it up to 1100 degrees.

That at being said, I use the large for for everything else.

    Also .. It's just a man thing I guess

I haven't yet done overnight cooks, so when a butt, or shoulder is going, I need another egg for lunch or supper. The small fills the bill.

It's more of a want than a need.  I had my large for 6-7yrs and did just fine then I found this place( and lost my wallet) Decided I "wanted" a small so I could run 2 different temp zones or cook the sides while the large was busy with the protein. The mini is just cool and for the 2 of us it sees the most use because it is quick to heat and is a searing machine.

I see a MiniMax in my future. Sometimes if my large is filled with a low & slow cook for 10-16 hours I essentially have to cook in the house. The MM would let me cook lunch, appetizers, veggies, - other items that need more than 225-250 degrees during the L&S cook. I also plan to use the MM for stir fries.

  • I started with a large. Got a small for small cooks, burgers, chicken breasts, saugages, etc. most of the time it's just 2 of us.

Butts, wings, ribs or entertaining, I use the large. Having 2 is a luxury but I do save a lot of fuel.

;)  Yep.  It's not so much as how you Egg, but how you look when your Egg.  I have a Large and Small... easy fella's....  Easier to port the Small, bought prior to the MiniMax or I would have jumped on that.  They all have their own uses.

Started with a Large, added a Small (which gets 66% of all my cooks), bought a medium strictly for baking - (call it my virgin egg as she has never even seen meat) and lastly bought a Mini for traveling. Most I've had fired up at the same time was three.

  • I only have one--an XL.  Wish I had a Medium to pair with it for some of the reasons above...  Friend of mine has the L, M, S, and mini.  He likes having the flexibility to plan out a solid meal for friends where the L is going low-and-slow with the main course (pork shoulder, ribs, brisket) and one of the smaller ones is set up at a different temperature for some appetizers, and maybe even a third at a different temp or set-up for a second main course (i.e. fish, burgers, etc.).

@Dfoshee - 11 days into the BGE eggsperience for me would suggest you may want to throttle back a bit.  If you are truly into the BGE eggsperience then you will sort out all the reasons for the want and/or need for another or more.
And if you think throwing $$ at the BGE is the largest expense, then hold on for the ride...the after market toys and/or the new freezer will quickly consume any ready $$.  Regardless, enjoy the whole deal.

Your right. I was just wondering. After reading I understand. And sorry if I came across wrong. Meant nothing by it.

I have an XL and a MiniMax. I would say I probably use them 50/50, the XL is awesome for space but it takes quite a bit longer to get to temp vs. the MiniMax. If I am cooking some meat for a quick meal the MiniMax is usually my go to, if I am cooking veggies, meat and dessert the XL is the way to go. You will notice you will start timing your cooks and selecting to do the lowest temp stuff first then increase for steaks and so on.

For me it has worked really well because if I am cooking chicken and veggies, I can startup the MiniMax and get it up to 600 for steaks in no time. With time you will probably find that a multiple egg setup works really well. We take the MiniMax when we go fishing and camping also, its attracted bears a couple of times

I have a large and want a mini-max so bad.  I am hoping for a good bonus from work so that I can buy the mini max and a SS table from Tim.  I love the looks of his tables.

The wife has family in Peoria so I might have to visit the in-laws to pick up a great table.   Fingers crossed for the bonus.

XL & MM, and I love it. I can take my mini with me camping and tailgating. Absolutely the best combination for me. I will be buying a Medium,  (Thanks @RRP) for baking only.

MBGE was my first, still use it a lot. The Primo Large Oval (bought it 2014 before the Loonie tanked) gets almost the same use, excellent two zone cooking for three or four people, which is most of my cooks. I do use my gasser (warming oven and holding is unmatched) and Smokey Joe for searing.

I think that everyone needs a MiniMax, honestly! It is unbeatable for its versatility and usability. My gas grill has not been used for the last 5 years, probably time to get rid of it.

Large and MM for me maybe had the large for six weeks went looking to get a small and found out MM would be out soon. MM is awesome. Cooks lunch great when a butt is on the large. And it's great to have them both going at the same time. Just awesome.

We have two larges, because I wanted my own egg and so that I can do pizza or bake breads or side dishes while the other egg is used for the meat.
