Where do you buy good meats
Can someone tell me where you buy quality meats online. I looked at Omaha Steaks. Is there another company out there that is better?
Any help would be appreciated.

Here you'll find ultra premium/Kobe like meats. I'd suggest you seek out your local butcher and order what you want from him. Grow that relationship and it will pay off.DoubleEgger said:Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga -
Thanks. Good advice.

Unfortunately local butchers are headed the way of the buffalo @bgebrent

Get a Costco membership their prime steaks are hard to beat unless you spend double the money. Their prime rib eye cap steaks are amazing.

Costco, Sams, Restaurant Depot, Butcher, and we have a local Duroc pork processing plant"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

Hope you haven't contacted Omaha Steaks, or even thought about them too hard.
I ordered a moderate selection from them a couple years ago. The meats were okay, Choice not Prime, and kept me fed for awhile. However, I was then subjected to the worst advertising blitz of my life: a couple mailings per week, two emails per day, and worst of all about 3 phone calls a week. I kept asking them to stop, and it finally took a registered letter (with a cc: to my favorite firm, Dewey, Screwim, and Howe, Attorneys at Law) to get them to take me off their contact list. Bastards!!!
Agree with @bgeBrent above, find a good local butcher and support them, support them well, so they don't fade away.“All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure.”

Michael, what you say is true but good local butchers still exist outside our city. And where I procured the fine cut I will post New Year's Day my friend.DoubleEgger said:Unfortunately local butchers are headed the way of the buffalo @bgebrentSandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga -
If you really want to order online my wife got me an assortment of aged wagyu from lobels a couple years back and they were all amazing. A 2lb tri tip is $86 though before shipping. http://www.lobels.com/

Thanks guys. That is what I like about the egg community. Good fast answers as well as great advice.

I'm all ears. There's no butchers in the Marietta area except for one place that has a limited selection and charges more than SRF.bgebrent said:

None in cumming either that are anything special. All butchers do anymore is break down primals there aren't anymore real butchers due to the level of food inspections required. Fergusons and Wilkes in north cumming aren't bad and Fergusons has the best wings around but I would buy Costco steaks over either of them and they are the best butchers around here.DoubleEgger said:

My friend, as you know I also spend time further north. Wilkes meat market in Cumming shows up for me all day long. Not convenient to you but first class for me. I get my pork bellies from them, and much more. I called them this morning requesting an unusual cut and they made it happen. And they carry SRF. Only butchers I use in our neck of the woods is the New York Butcher Shop. High quality but high priced.DoubleEgger said:

My Costco has never carried the ribeye cap steaks, and I think I have asked every meat cutter there at one point or another.
Same with packer brisket. They only carry the flats. I asked about those as well, and one of the guys I talked to said that they will occasionally arrive as a mistake, and they have to send them back. I asked if they ever put them out, and he said no - the order code is not in that stores computer, so they can not price or even accept it into inventory. I offered to take it off their hands when they did come in and the guy looked at me and did not even crack a smile.

Agree it varies a lot. We are lucky enough to have several different prime cuts here in GA but we don't get the full packers just flats and they stopped carrying tri tips recently. Even without the prime the Costco rib eyes and tenderloins are at least on par with any local butcher we have and they are cheaper. Agree though it sucks how much their selection varies.HeavyG said:

@Sea2Ski - I saw them at the KOP Costco last week. I didn't buy them, might need to stop by this week and see if they still have them.Sea2Ski said:

have you looked around in your area other than the local supermarkets, i can come up with atleast 6 local small butchers in my area within 15 minutes without even thinking about it and i see new places opening up. i think the trend is turning around and dont just look at the displays, actually talk to the butcher cause if you want something special his next delivery is just a day or two away

I am lucky, I just order from my suppliers through work. I buy larger cuts and process them myself.

Get a yearly KCB membership which gives you access to Restaurant Depot with a daily pass. There is probably one within driving distance to you. They have a great selection of subprimals with decent grades. It's also a fun place to shop for equipment and/or accessories.LBGE 2015 - Atlanta

Local butcher or if you are lucky you have a farmer's market nearby where somebody is selling local, grass fed beef.

Thanks @dmw. Actually I am headed there after work. Out of curiosity, which ones did they have? Ribeye cap or packers? Not that it matters.... (I would pick up either or both)--------------------------------------------------

Where are you located? That might help for suggestions. We buy all of our beef from a local farm that sells grass-fed in upstate SC. Satterfield Farms is outstanding.
