Political comments/discussions - a suggestion (OT)

Howdy all -
I know that this all goes in cycles, but it seems that recently very few threads go by that do not quickly transition from BBQ related to political baiting (recent examples - http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1184382/ny-times-engineering-a-better-brisket#latest, http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1183476/high-end-rotomolded-cooler-deal#latest). I, for one, really like hanging out with Eggers because it (typically) is an environment where folks across the political and economic spectra can hang out together sharing a common interest without too much BS. That no longer seems to be the case, and I can only imagine it gets worse as we wind our way into a Presidential election year.
While I am pretty thick skinned (as a liberal, pro-environment, pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion, evolution believing, man-caused-climate-change believing, pro-reading and science, Obama-contributing-and-supporting guy living in Houston and in the energy business needs to be), I prefer to have those kinds of debates in person, where people tend to be more polite.
My suggestions:

My suggestions:
- If you feel that you need to redirect comments from cookers or coolers to politics, please post the comment here - http://eggheadforum.com/categories/off-topic
- If you want to call me a dirty commie muslim-loving idiot, for the price of a beer, you can do that to my face, or at least, do so via PM so that the rest of the forum isn't clogged with this nonsense

I'm guilty as charged. I'll try to not be such a troll moving forward. Someone needs to tell Fred to stop being such a foil.

The irony is that this will likely be one of those discussions that spins out of control
Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
Agree. With your point. It's annoying trying to find ribs and abt's in the bushes.
I I was excited about following the cooler thread but that's dead in the water.
Ill try harder, I really wanna post cooks with new XL, but the last few threads have tainted the forum._______________________________________________XLBGE -

The easiest way to nip it in the bud, is when someone posts a political comment that is not on topic, no matter how offensive or which side the fence it's on, is to simply ignore it. Those who post something that they know will make someone else's blood boil is looking for fight in the first place. Ignore it, and maybe the poster will figure out that no one really gives a flip what they believe and they will grow up.
If they aren't rewarded with an argument, they will likely stop after a while., realizing that all they've managed to do is make people see what jerks they are. And as punishment, no one should respond to any poster who knowingly steals an on-topic thread about ANYTHING else afterward on ANY thread. Maybe they will figure out they aren't welcome here.
And if someone wants to spout his off-topic thoughts, he can do it on an off-topic thread and argue with anyone who wants to waste their time doing so.
And that's my two cents.Muskogee, OK LBGE -

You can call me Switzerland. That's how politically neutral I am. At the end of the day I would rather spend my life cooking and enjoying the company of my wife and friends. My thoughts on any political subject aren't going to change the way the world thinks about them. On a side note, I followed @thatgrimguy's suggestions for making fried rice on the blackstone tonight and it turned out awesome. Thanks for making it first so that I could learn what went right and what went wrong!1 large BGE, Spartanburg SC

I think 99% of it is just fun. A least here people are friends at the end of it. (btw, I'm a recent convert to the Democratic party. I'm hoping to vote for Bernie Sanders - think its my awesome Penzey spices)
I like everyone on here, except that troll @nolaegghead .I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

@20stone your points are well taken. I'm sure we have a lot of different viewpoints here. As for me, I pledge allegiance to the brisket, and I'll happily buy you a beer or soda anytime!

On another site I visit, the Admin has clamped down and there are NO political threads until we are within one year of the election. He says everyone is just jockeying for position at this time and I believe he is right. The true front runners will be pretty much sorted out by then and the wannabes will have fallen away from the headlines. Money will talk, BS will walk.A poor widows son.
