Rainy Butts and Brisket

DMW Posts: 13,836
My wife's mom's group is having a picnic tomorrow afternoon. Somehow it was mentioned that I could bring the meat...

So I was planning 2 10# butts for pulled pork. Well yesterday I was at Shady Maple and this jumped into the cart.

Not the carrots, they were already there...

Well, today we were blessed with all day torrential downpours so I broke out the Smokeware cap and Stoker.

The butts were in the fridge since Wednesday night, but they were still partially frozen, so they got a couple hour head-start when the rain let up a bit.

Since we had been busy most of the day and I really just hadn't planned anything for supper, we ended up ordering delivery...

And then the next rain break I got the brisket joined the party.

Smoking with Hasty Bake (oem'd Ozark Oak) lump and oak chunks. Hopefully the timing of everything works out for lunch tomorrow, otherwise we'll be ordering take out for the picnic...

Outstanding Dwayne! PS that view blows   I've been egging off and on today dodging rain and lightning. Now rather than upper 90℉s it feels like a sauna in Panama. Enjoy my friend. Wil take a peek back here for the payoff.

Man, it's tough when that stuff jumps in the cart like that!  How much will accidentally fall into your mouth later?

I like how they call it a "bag of beef". Great price too.

    Looking very good.

I know I shouldn't, but damn it feels great to see others cooking in the rain.  We're currently at the second wettest June on record ... and rain is in the forecast for the next three days.  The river is about nine feet over flood stage.  Couple of spots in the back yard look like rice patties.  Only good thing is that it's not snow!!!

Keep cooking ... will be back for the money shot.

@DMW, that ordered food looks awesome(not so much). Lots of pizza untouched. Looks like the group your feeding will be eating well.

@jeepster, we've had the same problem with the rain. My field is still swampy. A few people in the area built in the flood plain. I feel for them this year.

@dmw, as always, I am sure that you will knock it outta the park.  Given the weather yesterday my egging plans were delayed until today.  I've never been to shady maple's meat store, but if that does say $3.45/lb for a choice packer, then I think a trip may be in order.  Thank you for posting that label!

Looks good.  That's simply a tease with the pictures getting closer and closer to the pulled pork.

Thanks guys. I was really happy with the pulled pork. The brisket had a few too many dry areas of the flat for me. Not sure anyone else noticed, got lots of compliments.

@QingEsq - Yes, they are on sale for their 45th anniversary through the 30th. I think I'm going to pickup another couple for the freezer.

@DMW, you are correct.  However, don't expect @caliking to take any action.  He's a little fella. He's learned to live with his "size envy".  That must be what kept him from saying "hi" to me in Salado a couple of years ago.

*sigh* yes, they do. But they sell some other cookers in Houston too. I need to figure out how much couch time is worth getting another toy though

'Tis why I hung out with LS all day that one year. He makes me look tall(er).

And for the record, I couldn't introduce myself properly because I was busy stuffing my pie-hole with the shrimp turned out by the Foghorn duo!

@snoqualmiesmoker - Sorry I didn't respond until now, been busy with work. I love my small, gets more use than my XL ever since I added it. I usually use the Small for my weeknight cooks, XL for big cooks on the weekend.

I'm super jealous of your backyard.  Looks so peaceful.  The meat also looks fantastic!
